Role Scope & Purpose:
The WordPress Developer is responsible for designing, building, customizing, and maintaining WordPress websites that meet client or business requirements. This role covers the full spectrum of WordPress development - from theme and plugin development to performance optimization and site security. The WordPress Developer works closely with designers, project managers, and clients to deliver scalable, fast, and SEO-friendly WordPress solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, customize, and maintain WordPress websites including custom themes and plugins.
- Translate design mockups (Figma, Adobe XD) into pixel-perfect, responsive WordPress implementations.
- Configure and customize popular WordPress plugins (WooCommerce, Advanced Custom Fields, Elementor, Yoast, etc.).
- Optimize website performance (page speed, Core Web Vitals, caching, image optimization).
- Implement on-page SEO best practices in collaboration with SEO specialists.
- Ensure website security through best practices, plugin management, and regular updates.
- Manage site migrations, backups, and hosting configurations.
- Set up and customize WooCommerce stores including product pages, checkout flows, and payment integrations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, errors, and compatibility issues.
- Maintain documentation for custom development work and provide technical support to content editors.
Requirements
- 2–4 years of professional WordPress development experience.
- Proficiency in PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript for WordPress development.
- Experience building custom themes and plugins from scratch or via child themes.
- Strong understanding of WordPress core architecture, hooks, filters, and the WP REST API.
- Experience with performance optimization and page speed best practices.
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and deployment workflows.
- Knowledge of website security best practices within the WordPress ecosystem.
Nice to Have
- Experience with WooCommerce development and ecommerce customization.
- Familiarity with headless WordPress implementations (REST API, GraphQL, WPGraphQL).
- Experience with page builders (Elementor, Beaver Builder, or Divi) and their limitations.
- Knowledge of hosting environments (WP Engine, Kinsta, Cloudways, or similar managed WordPress hosts).
- Basic understanding of SEO and experience working alongside SEO specialists.
- Experience with Gutenberg block development.
