Who this fits
This is a hands-on director role suited to someone who can set direction and stay close to campaign work and performance numbers. You’ll lead a small team and outside partners while helping shape team structure. The role is remote and based in Santa Barbara.
From the employer
2Modern is a curated online destination for modern furniture, lighting, and decor, carrying about 300 of the best design brands. We serve design-minded consumers and a fast-growing trade program of interior designers, architects, and hospitality clients. We're a small, remote team that cares a lot about taste, craft, and doing fewer things really well.
The role
We're looking for a Marketing Director to run our marketing engine across both sides of the business: design-minded consumers and our trade program, which is our biggest growth priority. You'll own performance across paid, email and SMS, and on-site, and make sure every dollar earns its keep. You'll also bring creative and channel thinking together, because on today's platforms the creative is the targeting.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll set strategy, lead a small team and partners, and still be close enough to the numbers and the work to know what's really happening. Your first priorities are profitable performance marketing, building a clear, well-run team, and growing trade.
What you'll do
- Own performance marketing. Set budgets and allocation across Google, Meta, affiliates, and other paid channels, with gross profit after variable costs as the measure of success.
- Build marketing for our trade program. B2B is a strategic focus. Use our channels, content, and lifecycle programs to attract and retain high-value interior designers, architects, and hospitality clients, and partner with our B2B sales team.
- Own the marketing budget and vendors. Manage the full marketing budget, plus vendor and partner contracts and renewals.
- Bring creative and performance together. Build campaigns where creative testing drives results, and work with our creative team to brief, test, and learn.
- Lead email, SMS, and lifecycle for both consumer and trade audiences, treating email as a performance channel as well as a content channel.
- Own promotions with merchandising, within agreed margin guardrails.
- Oversee organic social and reviews, including Instagram, Pinterest, and Trustpilot.
- Run affiliates end to end, from partner performance to editorial and publisher relationships.
- Build trusted measurement with finance and our data team, across channels and customer types.
- Own go-to-market and the marketing calendar. Turn quarterly brand and trend direction from our Chief Brand Officer into a clear plan for launches, campaigns, and seasonal moments, and lead it from planning through execution with merchandising, creative, and our trade team.
- Lead and shape the team. Manage and develop email and SMS, creative, copy, and agency partners, and shape the team as we grow, including whether and when to add roles.
What success looks like in year one
- Profitable growth across our marketing channels
- A stronger trade program, with marketing as a real driver of new trade relationships
- Trusted measurement that the whole business uses to make decisions
- A team that's clear on priorities and growing in its roles
What you bring
- 7+ years in e-commerce marketing, with at least 3 years leading performance marketing and managing budgets.
- Hands-on experience with Google Ads, Meta, and affiliates, and a track record of growing profitably, not just growing revenue.
- Experience marketing to B2B or trade audiences (designers, architects, hospitality, or other professional buyers), or a clear point of view on how to build it.
- A strong partnership with finance. You've owned a marketing P&L or budget, worked with finance on forecasting and contribution margin, and made spend decisions based on profitability.
- Real understanding of how creative drives performance today. You can brief, structure, and read creative tests.
- A strong eye for design and brand. You can tell a great product story from an average one.
- Comfort with data, including GA4 and BigQuery or similar tools.
- Experience managing and developing a small team and outside partners.
- Bonus: experience in home, furniture, or design-led retail; email and SMS on Klaviyo; organic social on Instagram and Pinterest.
- A builder's mindset. You like bringing structure to a lean team, and you're happy to roll up your sleeves.
