Senior Content Specialist

Role Summary

The Senior Policy Specialist – ESG & Sustainable Finance Data is responsible for leading content research, policy development, methodology documentation, and operational governance for ESG and sustainable finance datasets. The role serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in sustainability regulations, frameworks, and market practices, ensuring that ESG data products are underpinned by robust methodologies, accurate taxonomy structures, and scalable operational processes.

This position works closely with Product, Data Operations, Technology, UX/UI, and Client Services teams to define data requirements, support platform enhancements, address client inquiries, and maintain the integrity and transparency of ESG content and methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

ESG Research & Content Development

• Conduct in-depth research on emerging ESG, sustainability, climate, and sustainable finance trends, regulations, standards, and market developments.
• Analyze new disclosure requirements, frameworks, and reporting standards to assess their impact on ESG data products.
• Evaluate industry best practices and competitor methodologies to identify content enhancement opportunities.
• Translate regulatory and sustainability requirements into actionable data specifications and content models.
• Provide subject matter expertise on sustainability topics including climate risk, net zero, biodiversity, human capital, corporate governance, sustainable finance, and impact investing.

Policy & Methodology Governance

• Develop, maintain, and update policy documentation, methodologies, data definitions, and content governance frameworks.
• Create detailed Method of Work (MoW), production guidelines, business rules, and decision trees for data collection and processing teams.
• Ensure methodology transparency, consistency, auditability, and regulatory alignment.
• Support periodic methodology reviews and governance board approvals.
• Manage documentation repositories and version control processes.

Taxonomy, Metadata & Data Model Management

• Define and maintain ESG data taxonomies, classifications, hierarchies, and data dictionaries.
• Partner with Product and Technology teams to enhance metadata management frameworks.
• Ensure consistent mapping across sustainability frameworks, standards, and data products.
• Identify gaps in existing taxonomies and recommend improvements to support evolving market requirements.
• Support data lineage, traceability, and content governance initiatives.

Product, UI & Platform Support

• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX/UI designers, and Technology teams to ensure effective presentation and usability of ESG content.
• Provide business requirements and content specifications for platform enhancements.
• Review user interfaces to ensure data definitions, labels, workflows, and navigation support client needs.
• Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) for content-related product releases.
• Recommend improvements that enhance customer experience and content discoverability.

Operations Support & Process Excellence

• Act as an escalation point for complex content, methodology, and policy-related questions from operations teams.
• Support production teams with content interpretation, quality reviews, and issue resolution.
• Develop training materials and knowledge repositories for data collection and validation teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, automation, and quality controls.
• Partner with process excellence teams to standardize workflows and improve data consistency.

Client & Stakeholder Support

• Support client-facing teams by addressing methodology, content, and policy-related inquiries.
• Participate in client discussions, webinars, product demonstrations, and content reviews when required.
• Prepare responses to complex client questions regarding ESG data models, methodologies, and disclosure interpretations.
• Gather client feedback and translate insights into content and product improvements.
• Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Quality, Risk & Governance

• Ensure content quality, consistency, completeness, and reliability across ESG datasets.
• Maintain robust governance controls over content development and methodology management.
• Assess risks associated with methodology changes, regulatory updates, and content production processes.
• Support audit, compliance, and governance reviews.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen content management practices.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sustainability, Finance, Economics, Environmental Science, Public Policy, Business, or related field.
• 6–10 years of experience in ESG research, sustainable finance, policy development, content management, or data governance.
• Strong understanding of ESG reporting frameworks, sustainability regulations, and responsible investment practices.
• Experience creating methodologies, policy documents, business rules, and operational guidance.

Preferred

• Experience within ESG data providers, financial information services, sustainability consulting, or ratings and research organizations.
• Knowledge of sustainable finance frameworks, corporate disclosures, and ESG data ecosystems.
• Experience working with taxonomy management, metadata governance, and product development teams.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled content management and data operations environments.
