From the employer
Who we are
At Latent Labs, we are building frontier models that learn the fundamentals of biology. We pursue ambitious goals with curiosity and are committed to scientific excellence. Before building Latent Labs, our team co-developed DeepMind's Nobel-prize winning AlphaFold, invented latent diffusion, and built pioneering lab data management systems as well as high throughput protein screening platforms. At Latent Labs you will be working with some of the brightest minds in generative AI and biology.
Our team is committed to interdisciplinary exchange, continuous learning and collaboration. Team offsites help us foster a culture of trust across our London and San Francisco sites.
We're looking for innovators passionate about tackling complex challenges and maximising positive global impact. Join us on our moonshot mission.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced communications and marketing leader to build and own the function at Latent Labs. As our first dedicated hire in this area, you will be the architect of our public identity, creating and owning the strategy from scratch. You will be embedded at the heart of the company and report directly to the Head of Operations.
The role has two equally important dimensions: creating a consistent drumbeat of thought leadership content that builds our presence over time, and leading high-stakes communications around the moments that define the company.
Who you are
You are an owner. You have built a communications and marketing function from scratch and are comfortable operating without established infrastructure or precedent. You set the strategy and execute it yourself.
You translate complex science. You are fluent in AI for biology—and ideally protein design—and can turn complex Bio-ML research into compelling narratives for technical and non-technical audiences alike.
You know the full marcomms stack. You have experience across media relations, narrative development, brand positioning, stakeholder relations, content marketing, and crisis and reputation management.
You pitch proactively. You create briefs independently and execute across formats, including editorial content, thought leadership, press releases, case studies, web content, video scripts, keynote speeches, and investor narratives.
You have strong media relationships. You have established relationships with journalists and editors across AI and the life sciences, and you know how to land a story.
You thrive in a dynamic and ambiguous environment. You excel in a fast-paced setting where priorities shift and goals must be met with urgency. You create clarity where none yet exists.
What sets you apart (Preferred but not required)
You have done this at an early-stage company. You have built a communications function within a startup or scaling deep-tech or science company, and you understand the difference between moving fast and moving recklessly.
You have a scientific background. You have a degree or research experience in the life sciences or a related field, giving you genuine credibility with the researchers whose work you will communicate.
You have led communications through defining moments. You have led communications around a funding announcement, major product launch, or comparable milestone where the stakes were high and the window was short.
Your responsibilities
Define and own the communications and marketing strategy, including our narrative, messaging, brand positioning, channel mix, cadence, and measures of success.
Build and own the executive platform by identifying high-impact speaking opportunities, ghostwriting thought leadership, and positioning Latent Labs’ leadership as definitive voices in AI-driven biology.
Monitor the AI and biotech landscape to identify white space and ensure our narrative stays ahead of the market.
Lead communications for key milestones, including research launches, fundraising, partnerships, and product news.
Work closely with researchers and company leadership to extract ideas and shape them into a consistent drumbeat of public-facing content across LinkedIn, op-eds, editorial content, and keynote speeches.
Own website content and ensure it remains consistent and compelling as the company evolves.
Identify and secure speaking opportunities at scientific conferences, investor events, and industry forums.
Develop partnership- and BD-facing materials, including collateral, one-pagers, and narratives that support commercial conversations.
Build and maintain media relationships and manage all press enquiries.
Manage relationships with external agencies and freelancers across PR and design.
