  • You explain technical topics clearly to IT teams and school staff, and write strong email and questionnaire responses
  • You can answer product questions in sales meetings while the account executive leads the discussion

Who this fits

This role suits someone from school IT who wants to move into a technical position in the tech sector; sales experience is not required. The role is based at the Sydney office hub, with occasional conferences and industry events. Before starting, you need Australian work rights, a valid Working With Children Check and a satisfactory National Police Check.

From the employer

Come shape the future of education with us.

At Compass, we're on a mission to transform the school day for everyone - from staff and students to families and administrators. We build smart, seamless technology that empowers schools to focus on what really matters: learning, growing and thriving.

That mission has fuelled our growth into a global scale-up, now supporting 5,000+ schools across three countries, backed by a team of 300+ people. Our all-in-one school management platform is redefining how education communities connect, communicate and operate.

We're now looking for a Pre-Sales Technical Specialist to join our Sales team in Sydney and help schools across Australia adopt Inklass and Griddle with confidence.

About the Role

You will be the technical expert behind our Inklass and Griddle sales team. You'll join sales calls, answer prospects' technical questions, and help schools across Australia get confident that our products fit their systems.

Compass software is used by schools nationwide, and our sales team is growing. Schools now ask detailed questions about integrations, data, security and privacy before they buy. This role makes sure those questions get fast, accurate answers, so our Account Executives (AEs) can focus on running the deal.

This role suits someone from a school IT team, such as an IT coordinator, systems administrator or IT manager at an independent school, who wants to move into the tech sector. You don't need a sales background. You need strong technical knowledge, curiosity about how systems connect, and the confidence to explain it clearly.

What You'll Do

  • Join sales calls as the technical expert - sit in on meetings run by AEs and answer technical questions about integrations, data flows, SSO, hosting and security.
  • Answer technical questions during the sales process including responding to prospect and school IT queries by email and call, within agreed response times.
  • Support the sales team - be the go-to person when AEs need a technical answer, and help them understand the intricacies of how our products work.
  • Set up and support trial accounts including configuring trials, connecting them to school systems where needed, and fixing issues so trials run smoothly.
  • Complete security and IT questionnaires. Filling in school IT, privacy and security assessments as part of the sales process, working with Product and Engineering on anything new.
  • Learn our ecosystem - build deep knowledge of how Inklass and Griddle integrate with SIS, LMS, identity and other partner platforms.
  • Help up skill the sales team. You'll work with sales enablement to build technical knowledge across the team, through FAQs, short guides and training sessions.
  • Attend occasional events - join the team at conferences and industry events where schools want to speak with a technical expert.
  • Hand over cleanly by passing technical requirements and trial details to our Onboarding team so new schools have a smooth transition onto the platform.

Requirements

About You

What You'll Bring

  • 2+ years in an IT, systems or technical support role, ideally in a K–12 school, school system or government education setting.
  • Strong understanding of software and IT systems, including APIs, integrations, data syncing and how cloud platforms connect.
  • Working knowledge of identity and access solutions.
  • The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both IT departments and non-technical staff like Principals and Business Managers.
  • Confidence to sit in sales meetings and engage with prospects to answer technical product questions, while the AE leads the conversation.
  • Good judgement on when to answer on the spot and when to take a question away and come back with clarity.
  • Strong written communication for questionnaires, emails and technical answers.
  • A team-first approach, organised, reliable and responsive to the people relying on you.
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn new products and partner platforms quickly.

Highly Regarded

  • Hands-on experience with major EdTech platforms used in Australian schools, including student information systems (SIS) and learning management systems (LMS), such as Compass, SchoolBox, Synergetic and TASS.
  • Experience administering or integrating school platforms, for example data syncs between an SIS and other school systems.
  • Familiarity with EdTech data and identity standards.
  • Experience completing or reviewing EdTech security and privacy assessments, such as Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S).
  • Exposure to a CRM such as HubSpot, or to vendor-side work with schools.
