Who this fits

This role suits an early-career social media or community practitioner who understands youth gaming culture and enjoys hands-on campaign work. It is remote and based in South Africa.

From the employer

Carry1st is building the dominant commerce platform for Africa and the Middle East. Operating at the intersection of video games, publishing, and fintech, we scale awesome content in frontier markets by solving hard problems. We are partnered with top global game companies like Riot Games, Activision, and Tencent and we are backed by top investors like a16z, Bitkraft, Google, Konvoy, Riot Games, Sony, and Nas.

As Associate Social Media Manager, you'll help build a large, engaged audience of young gamers who trust Carry1st and feel part of a community. On social we're a gaming and community brand first: global gaming culture, made locally relevant. You'll come up with the campaigns and moments that get gamers talking, and make them happen. You'll be our ear on the ground with gamers, the person who knows what's trending, what's funny and what will land before anyone else does. You'll work closely with our Social Media Manager and Content Producer to turn ideas into content people want to follow, share and join in with.

In this role you will...

  • Come up with and run campaigns around the moments Carry1st should own: tournaments and events, major game launches and live ops, and announcements our audience genuinely cares about
  • Keep our always-on feeds fresh with entertainment and memes, creator and UGC content, useful tips, and community conversation
  • Turn each campaign into a clear plan with the Social Media Manager: the idea, the formats, the channels, the timing and what success looks like
  • Brief and work with our creative teams to make the content, and write the copy, captions and hooks yourself
  • Run campaigns live across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and our WhatsApp community: post, respond to what's happening, and change course quickly
  • Stay close to the community, with your finger on what gamers care about: trends, memes, slang, creators and conversations, and turn that into ideas
  • Make the community part of the content through challenges, polls, UGC, shout-outs and live moments, and work with creators to bring local voices and faces onto our channels
  • Report on every campaign (reach, follower growth, engagement, sentiment and brand mentions) and share what worked and what didn't
  • Act as a cultural sense-check for the wider team, so our content feels authentic, representative and lands well with local audiences

Requirements

  • 1–3 years in social media, community or content, either agency or in-house (a strong personal or creator track record counts too)
  • A portfolio of campaigns or posts you came up with and ran, with results
  • Deep knowledge of youth culture, and a real love of gaming
  • Sharp, funny, native-sounding copywriting for social
  • Comfortable working across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, and with tools like CapCut, Canva and scheduling tools
  • Organised and quick: you can move from idea to live campaign in days, not weeks
  • Comfortable on camera is a plus, but not required
