Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications is responsible for assisting with all facets of athletic communications including sports information, media relations, publications, social media, content creation, etc. This individual will serve as the media contact for assigned sports while providing statistical support for all assigned events and producing event stories, website and social media content for these assigned sports.

Full Job Description:

Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

· Manage and assist in communications efforts for various sports determined by the Associate Athletic Director, Communications.

· Write game previews and game recaps, update student-athlete and coach bios and write general news releases on department’s official website – USFDons.com.

· Maintain statistics, records and photo archives for assigned sports.

· Responsible for live and postgame statistics for all assigned sports. Must also be available to fill in as official statistician at home events as necessary.

· Work closely with head coaches in researching proper promotions of teams and student-athletes for department website usfdons.com and social media platforms.

· Write feature stories and share ideas in collaboration with creative team for social media graphics and video content across various platforms.

· Create and maintain working relationships with local and national media outlets, proactively promoting coaches and student-athletes and facilitating requests from media.

· Maintain various statistical and historical research projects as assigned, including team record books.

· Properly archive game action photos and work with marketing team and conference office for photo requests and other materials as needed.

· Facilitate various requests from coaching staffs, the West Coast Conference and NCAA.

· Promote student-athletes for various national and conference awards.

· Assist at men’s and women’s basketball home games.

· Administrative/clerical duties include maintenance of game and team photo files and historical archives.

· Assist with gameday staffing for assigned sports.

· Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Understanding and appreciation of the mission, vision, and values of the University of San Francisco.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with emphasis on journalism, public relations, communications or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of public relations, communications or sports information experience in an NCAA athletics department and/or professional sports organization.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite is preferred (InDesign and Photoshop) .
  • Basic knowledge of Stat Crew, NCAA Live Stats (Genius), Stat Input (Stat Broadcast).
  • Experience in feature writing, game coverage, copy editing and proofreading.
  • Strong writing background from feature stories to game notes, and able to originate ideas for graphics and video for social media platforms.
  • Well-versed in social media strategies and trends including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations across all USF sponsored sports
  • The position requires some travel and working evenings, weekends and select holidays in addition to daily office hours. Also requires other related duties as assigned by your supervisor and/or other department leadership.
