About the Opportunity
Kerr Pumps designs and manufactures positive displacement pumps at our 1 million square foot facility in Sulphur, Oklahoma. We are hiring a Senior Sales Engineer to grow our standard industrial pump line, with a strong focus on reciprocating plunger and piston pumps and engineered pump packages.
We need someone who can find new business, understand the application, specify the right pump, help develop the complete package, and close the sale. You will work directly with company leadership and our engineering and operations teams to pursue new opportunities and expand established customer and distributor relationships.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role with responsibility for business growth, technical sales, and customer relationships. You will help determine which markets to pursue and what it takes to win in them.
Develop new business and grow existing accounts
- Identify and pursue opportunities with end users, OEMs, equipment packagers, distributors, engineering firms, and project contractors.
- Build a focused plan around applications and customers that fit our pump capabilities, including new projects, equipment replacements, and recurring OEM business.
- Develop relationships with engineering, operations, maintenance, and purchasing teams; understand who specifies the equipment and who makes the buying decision.
- Expand existing accounts and distributor relationships while maintaining an active pipeline of new opportunities, quotations, and next steps.
- Understand competing equipment and customer priorities and use that knowledge to develop competitive proposals and win profitable orders.
Specify pumps for the application
- Gather and evaluate flow, pressure, fluid properties, temperature, suction conditions, duty cycle, and the required operating range.
- Understand pump sizing, speed, horsepower, materials, packing, valves, and the effects of cavitation, pulsation, and abrasive or corrosive service.
- Review customer specifications and bid documents, clarify missing information, and work with engineering to confirm selections, limitations, and exceptions.
Develop complete pump packages
- Help define package scope, including the driver, drive arrangement, skid, piping connections, controls, instrumentation, pressure protection, and pulsation equipment.
- Coordinate detailed design and component selection with engineering and suppliers, accounting for installation, service access, and customer requirements.
- Identify required drawings, documentation, inspections, and testing so the quotation accurately reflects the equipment and work being supplied.
Own the sale through order handoff
- Develop and present proposals with clear scope, pricing, delivery expectations, and commercial terms; follow through on technical questions and negotiations.
- Coordinate with operations on feasibility and lead times, then provide a complete handoff when an order is placed.
- Stay engaged with customers through delivery and follow-up to build repeat business and identify additional opportunities.
- Bring market feedback to leadership on pricing, product needs, packaging opportunities, and future sales coverage.
