Who this fits

You’ll suit a founding product marketing role where the federal motion is being built from scratch through live pursuits. You should be comfortable going directly to program offices, contracting officers, agents, and analysts, then changing your view as evidence develops. The role is based in San Francisco and favors someone willing to work onsite in DC, attend industry days, and operate closely with capture and pre-sales.

From the employer

Backed by leading Silicon Valley investors, Peregrine helps public safety organizations, state and local and governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions address society’s challenges with unprecedented speed and accuracy. Our AI-enabled platform turns siloed and disconnected data into operational intelligence — instantly surfacing mission-critical information to empower better, faster decisions that improve outcomes at every touchpoint. Today Peregrine supports hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, serving more than 125 million people — and we’re amplifying our impact as we expand into the enterprise and internationally.

The Role

Federal is Peregrine's next market, and you will be its founding product marketer, reporting to the VP of Product Marketing. Peregrine's platform runs in production across hundreds of state and local agencies. In federal law enforcement missions, that work translates directly. In adjacent segments, this role runs the discovery to find it. The role is full-stack: positioning, embedded work with capture and pre-sales, and early campaign testing. There is no federal marketing foundation yet. You will build it, in the field, inside live pursuits.

In this role, you will…

  • Own federal positioning and messaging, including translating proven state and local law enforcement work for federal missions, and a clear articulation of how we earn trust: auditability, access controls, and accountable AI.
  • Run discovery in unproven segments: win-loss, buyer research, and messaging hypotheses tested through live pursuits.
  • Feed product marketing messaging into the capture-led win strategy for pursuits (e.g., positioning, competitive counters, and holding every claim to what's proven across briefings, RFI and sources sought responses, and proposals).
  • Build the pre-solicitation content set to influence acquisitions at scale (capability briefings, mission white papers, industry day materials).
  • Arm pre-sales teams with first-call narratives, demo storylines, and objection handling.
  • Partner with growth team to deliver early test campaigns, including defining segments, identifying and engaging the right external industry partners and events, and hands-on production of market-facing assets.
  • Package deployment proof into federal-ready evidence: case studies, references, outcome data cleared for public use.
  • Feed pursuit and campaign learning back into positioning and product.

What you’ll bring

  • Authorship that changed an outcome: a positioning document that moved a deal, a requirement, or an executive decision.
  • Working knowledge of the federal procurement lifecycle and the compliance frameworks federal buyers evaluate against.
  • 7+ years in product marketing or adjacent go-to-market roles, including 3+ years marketing or selling technology to the US federal government.
  • Range across the full product marketing stack: positioning, pursuit support, enablement, and campaign execution.
  • Comfort treating an unmapped segment as a research problem with a deadline.
  • Judgment on when a claim is proven versus promising, built working alongside technical field teams.
  • Adept at operating across two registers: technical depth for program offices, plain language for public surfaces.

What success looks like

  • You can make the federal case yourself: in a program office briefing, you deliver the argument for why the mission needs what Peregrine builds, in the buyer's terms, and it holds when they push back.
  • Capture and pre-sales reach for your positioning unprompted. The language in capability briefings, RFI responses, and first-call decks traces back to you.
  • Positioning lands before solicitations drop: win strategy documents and requirement language reflect framing you wrote.
  • Adjacent-segment discovery ends in decisions: documented pursue-or-pass calls grounded in win-loss and buyer research.
  • Federal claims survive contracting, legal, and security review without being walked back.
  • Deployment proof is federal-ready: cleared case studies and references that pre-sales uses without a legal review on every send.
  • Capture and pre-sales pull you into pursuits early, and the state and local teams open their deployment proof to you.

You might thrive in this role if…

  • You've built a marketing motion from nothing and want to do it again.
  • You go to the source: program offices, contracting officers, the agents and analysts in the field. Reports come second.
  • You form a point of view from thin data and revise it when the evidence moves.
  • You say what's proven and no more, even when a pursuit is on the clock.
  • You want to be in the room: onsite in DC, at industry days, alongside capture and pre-sales.
  • The mission is concrete for you: you can name the agencies, the people in them, and the problems you want this work to serve.
