  • Review customer, service and market information to find portfolio gaps and advise what to expand, combine or phase out
  • Help determine pricing, packaging and positioning for digital solutions alongside Product, Finance and Marketing

  • Run product discovery, help with pilots and launches, then use adoption feedback to improve solutions and standardize custom work

What you bring

  • At least five years in business development, product management, product marketing or another listed customer-facing product role
  • You have converted customer needs into offering definitions, scope documents or product improvements
  • You can explain technical, regulatory, digital or software-based solutions and influence teams without direct authority

Who this fits

This suits a customer-facing product specialist who connects customer problems with offering design and works across functions. You support sales conversations as the product expert, without account ownership or a sales quota. Regional travel is part of the role as needed.

From the employer

UL Solutions is seeking a Business Development Manager, UK and Europe, Data & Innovation to support the definition, scoping, and growth of digital, data, and technology-enabled offerings, including Global Compliance Management (GCM).
This role sits between the customer and the offering. The person gathers customer requirements, documents how compliance and market access problems show up in practice, and works with Product, Technical, Operations, Marketing, and Sales teams to define what the offering needs to do, how it is packaged, and how it is explained. The role supports customer conversations as the product expert rather than as the account owner.
This is a non-commissioned product role. It does not carry a sales quota or account ownership. Success is measured by the quality of requirements captured, the clarity and usability of the offering, and the adoption of the solutions the role supports.

Customer Requirements and Offering Definition

  • Gather and document customer requirements, use cases, and unmet needs, and translate them into clear input for product and offering decisions.
  • Analyze customer, service, and market data to identify gaps in the current offering portfolio and recommend where to extend, package, or retire capability.
  • Support pricing, packaging, and positioning decisions for new and evolving digital solutions, working with Product, Finance, and Marketing.

Solution Scoping and Product Enablement

  • Act as the product point of contact for sales, account, and global account teams on scope, capability, limitations, and fit.
  • Support solution scoping for customer opportunities, including requirements, assumptions, dependencies, and handoffs to delivery.
  • Build product collateral, demo content, discovery guides, and use cases so the offering is explained consistently and can be repeated at scale.

Customer Discovery and Solution Fit

  • Lead product discovery sessions that start with the customer’s compliance or market access problem, not a predetermined solution.
  • Assess whether the current offering meets the need, document the gap when it does not, and bring in the right technical or regulatory expert.
  • Support pilots and early adoption, track how customers actually use the solution, and feed findings, objections, and competitive insight back to Product and leadership.

Product Commercialization and Performance Analysis

  • Support launch and commercialization of digital, software-enabled, and AI-enabled offerings, including readiness checks, launch materials, and internal training.
  • Use CRM, Power BI, usage data, and market data to track offering performance, adoption, and conversion, and to build simple business cases for investment.
  • Turn recurring custom work into standard, repeatable product components with defined scope, delivery model, and pricing.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Approximately 5+ years in business development, product management, product marketing, solutions consulting, commercialization, or a related customer-facing product role.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather customer requirements and turn them into offering definition, scope documents, or product improvements.
  • Strong discovery, communication, presentation, and relationship-management skills, and the ability to influence across functions without direct authority.
  • Working knowledge of technical, regulatory, digital, or software-enabled solutions, and the ability to explain how they work and what they deliver.
  • Self-directed, comfortable in an evolving environment, and willing to travel within the region as needed.

Preferred

  • Experience in testing, inspection and certification; product compliance; regulatory services; market access; software/SaaS; digital transformation; cybersecurity; or another technical B2B environment.
  • Experience defining or commercializing software, subscription, or recurring-revenue offerings for complex enterprise customers.
  • Experience using CRM, Power BI, or similar tools to analyze customer and commercial opportunities.
  • Experience developing or launching new products, service offerings, pilots, or go-to-market packages.
  • Familiarity with regional data-privacy and outreach requirements
