The Denver 9-1-1 National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Division is seeking to fill Operational Supervisor I to perform supervisory duties over the NCIC Division.

The NCIC Division plays a critical role in ensuring seamless operations for multiple law enforcement agencies, including Denver 9‑1‑1, Denver Police Department, Denver Sheriff Department, Pre Trial Services, and numerous other regional and federal partners providing 24‑hour, 7‑day‑a‑week access.
 

As an essential operations division, NCIC ensures immediate, accurate action on matters impacting public safety. The Denver 9‑1‑1 NCIC Division performs a wide range of technical and support functions, including assisting law enforcement personnel in identifying and apprehending individuals wanted for criminal activity, as well as entering and verifying law enforcement reports and data across federal, state, and local systems.

This position is responsible for maintaining accuracy and quality in all work completed by division staff and ensuring timely corrective action when errors occur. Precise identification is critical, ensuring the correct individuals are held accountable, and arrest records remain reliable.

Supervisors oversee 7–15 employees per shift while working a minimum eight‑hour shift. They are responsible for directing and monitoring daily workflow to ensure departmental priorities are achieved. In addition, supervisors conduct audits, provide guidance, troubleshoot issues, and support both internal and external customers in handling complex or escalated situations.

This position will also facilitate teams and initiatives and assume command of the Denver 9‑1‑1 NCIC Division in the absence of the Operations Manager and department leadership. This is an essential personnel position and is subject to immediate recall during major and/or emergency situations. This position requires the employee to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City's operational status.

Additionally, this position supports professional and/or higher‑level managers by performing a variety of operational functions including reporting, evaluation, information management, and process improvement, including creating and/or editing policies for review by the Section Manager and the Director.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Supervises division staff members involved in the operation and recommends process improvements and changes in practices and procedures to increase operating efficiency and expedite workflow

  • Plans, assigns, and evaluates the work of staff; provides technical expertise and establishes division and staff work goals and objectives

  • Provides work instruction, assists employees with difficult and unusual assignments, and encourages innovation. Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion

  • Conducts hiring interviews and assists in selections of candidates for job openings

  • Resolves problems, mediates conflicts encountered during daily operations, determines appropriate solutions, and promotes teamwork. Encourages regular communication and informs staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization

  • Plans, assigns, and evaluates the work of staff members and provides reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Develops and implements training and development plans and opportunities for subordinate staff

  • Ensures quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of division activities and safety measures

  • Creates and maintains production metrics for the division

  • Performs other duties as assigned

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated commitment to process improvement and a working knowledge of NCIC/CCIC

  • Prior supervisory experience

  • Experience training new employees on relevant standards, regulations, and operational requirements

Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate

  • Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience performing technical, paraprofessional, and/ or administrative work (this does not include office support work)

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of education may be substituted for each required year experience

  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
