Job Description:

The successful candidate will join Blackstone’s Legal & Compliance (“L&C”) department in Tokyo and support the firm’s businesses in Japan as part of Blackstone’s LP Communications (“LP Comms”) and marketing-material review function. The role will focus on legal and compliance matters relating to marketing materials and other communications prepared for investors, prospective investors, financial intermediaries and third-party distributors.

The individual will review both Japanese-language materials and global materials adapted for use in Japan, with particular emphasis on compliance with Blackstone’s global policies and procedures and applicable Japanese requirements. The position will work closely with Blackstone’s global Legal & Compliance team, including Japan Compliance, as well as Japan Private Wealth (“PW”), Institutional Client Solutions (“ICS”), Investor Product Strategy (“IPS”) and other business and control functions.

More specifically, the successful candidate will:

  • Assist in reviewing Japanese and English marketing materials, investor communications, due diligence responses, and other fundraising and reporting materials across investment strategies, including presentations, updates, fund commentaries, webinars, websites, social-media content, thought-leadership pieces, and training and event materials.
  • Advise on the localization of global firmwide materials for Japan and review Japanese translations against English source materials to identify substantive discrepancies, omissions, inaccurate or misleading language, and other legal or compliance concerns.
  • Review disclaimers in Japanese prospectuses and prospectus summaries for Japan-domiciled feeder funds in connection with annual registrations and other updates, and support the review and localization of fund-specific disclosures, legends, and regulatory notices.
  • Review and advise on APAC marketing and distribution matters, including audience, channels, eligibility, licensing, and disclosures, and assist with relevant fund and offering document reviews and global approvals.
  • Prepare and deliver training on marketing and fundraising requirements and review protocols; maintain review records and audit trails; coordinate on new products and cross-functional projects; support efficient review processes and appropriate use of technology; and assist with other day-to-day Legal & Compliance matters and ad hoc projects.
  • Take a leadership role as the APAC LP Comms team continues to be built-out, supporting the other members to the regional team and helping the LP Comms leadership execute their strategic plan.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant legal, compliance or regulatory experience at an asset manager, investment manager, financial institution, law firm or financial regulator, with the precise level of seniority determined by the candidate’s experience.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Japanese required
  • Strong analytical, issue-spotting, and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workflow, thriving in an environment with multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization, including senior management
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft applications including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • JD with qualification in Japan, U.S. or U.K.
  • 3+ PQE with in-house experience or experience with alternative investment highly regarded
  • Experience supporting the implementation or rollout of AI-enabled or other technology solutions within a legal, compliance or financial-services environment, including use-case development, testing, workflow design, training and user adoption
