About SeqCenter
SeqCenter is a growing genomics services company providing high-quality next-generation sequencing (NGS), long-read sequencing, and bioinformatics solutions to academic, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, AgBio and other research organizations.
SeqCenter provides advanced DNA and RNA sequencing and bioinformatics services to academic, biotechnology, AgBio, pharmaceutical, and research organizations. Our mission is to make high-quality genomics services accessible through scientific expertise, reliable turnaround times, and exceptional customer support.
As we expand our commercial presence, particularly in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical markets, we are seeking an entrepreneurial and results-driven Director of Sales & Business Development to lead our commercial growth.
Position Overview
We are looking for a hands-on commercial leader and experienced individual contributor who can drive revenue growth while establishing the foundation for SeqCenter's future sales organization.
This is not a traditional sales management position overseeing an established team. The successful candidate must be comfortable operating independently, prospecting for new customers, developing relationships, visiting clients, negotiating agreements, and closing business.
The ideal candidate will bring an established professional network within the BioPharma and biotechnology industries, a strong understanding of genomics and sequencing services, and a demonstrated history of converting business opportunities into revenue.
As the business grows, this individual will help design, recruit, and lead a high-performing commercial organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Revenue Generation
· Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities, with a primary focus on biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and life sciences companies.
· Leverage an existing network of industry contacts to accelerate market penetration and customer acquisition.
· Independently manage the complete sales cycle, from prospecting and technical discussions to proposals, negotiation, and contract execution.
· Conduct customer visits, attend industry conferences, and represent SeqCenter in strategic business meetings.
2. Commercial Strategy & Team Development
· Develop and implement a scalable commercial growth strategy aligned with SeqCenter's business objectives.
· Establish the structure, processes, and performance metrics required for a future sales and business development team.
· Identify priority markets, customer segments, strategic accounts, and potential partnerships.
· Establish sales forecasting, pipeline management, and customer segmentation practices using HubSpot CRM.
3. Technical & Market Expertise
· Understand customer requirements and translate scientific challenges into appropriate sequencing and bioinformatics solutions.
· Identify emerging genomics applications and commercial opportunities within BioPharma, biotech, and translational research.
· Collaborate with SeqCenter's scientific and operations teams to develop technically appropriate and commercially competitive solutions.
4. Strategic Partnerships
· Establish and develop relationships with pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, CROs, research institutions, and technology providers.
· Identify opportunities for preferred-provider agreements, outsourced sequencing services, and long-term commercial partnerships.
· Develop key accounts that generate sustainable, recurring revenue.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Human Genetics, Population Genetics, Biotechnology, or a closely related life sciences discipline.
· Minimum 8 years of relevant sales or business development experience in genomics, sequencing services, biotechnology, pharmaceutical research services, or closely related life sciences markets.
· Demonstrated success in direct selling and closing complex technical service agreements.
· Established relationships and strong familiarity with the BioPharma and biotechnology markets.
· Proven ability to independently generate leads, develop opportunities, and close deals without relying on an established sales support organization.
· Strong technical understanding of genomics, sequencing technologies, and their research applications.
· Experience developing commercial strategies, managing pipelines, and achieving revenue targets.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, relationship-building, and presentation skills.
· Willingness to travel frequently for customer meetings, conferences, and business development activities.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master's degree or PhD in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.
· Direct experience selling NGS, long-read sequencing, genomics, transcriptomics, or bioinformatics services.
· Existing relationships with R&D decision-makers in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
· Experience selling outsourced research services, including genomics CRO or fee-for-service laboratory offerings.
