About this Role

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Merchant Product Sales Consultant to drive growth within our Government Banking segment by delivering tailored payment solutions to government and public-sector clients. This consultative sales role is responsible for growing Merchant Services revenue through strategic business development, relationship management, and the delivery of innovative merchant acquiring, electronic receivables, and payment acceptance solutions that help clients modernize payment experiences, improve operational efficiency, and optimize revenue collection. Leveraging deep merchant services expertise and a strong understanding of the public sector, this individual will serve as a trusted advisor to government organizations while helping expand Wells Fargo's presence across the payments ecosystem.

The successful candidate will lead the full sales lifecycle, from prospecting and needs assessment through solution design, negotiation, and implementation, while partnering closely with Government Banking Relationship Managers, Treasury Management partners, Product teams, and implementation stakeholders. Success in this role requires a results-oriented mindset, strong executive presence, and the ability to build influential relationships, uncover client needs, and deliver customized solutions that drive client growth, strengthen payment operations, and achieve revenue objectives.

In This Role, You Will

  • Develop and execute sales strategies to grow Merchant Services revenue across government and public-sector clients, including state agencies, municipalities, counties, educational institutions, and other government entities.
  • Serve as the Merchant Services subject matter expert for Government Banking, partnering with Treasury Management and Relationship Managers to identify opportunities and deliver integrated payment solutions.
  • Lead the full consultative sales cycle, including prospecting, discovery, solution design, proposal development, negotiation, and implementation.
  • Deliver tailored payment solutions including merchant acquiring, electronic receivables, digital payments, gateway services, and payment modernization capabilities.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key decision-makers, finance leaders, procurement stakeholders, and public-sector executives.
  • Drive new client acquisition, portfolio growth, and revenue generation while achieving annual sales and pipeline objectives.
  • Collaborate with Product, Operations, Risk, Implementation, and Service teams to ensure successful client onboarding and long-term relationship success.
  • Identify market trends, competitive opportunities, and industry developments that strengthen Wells Fargo's position within the government payments ecosystem.
  • Influence strategic initiatives and contribute to product enhancements by sharing client insights and market intelligence.
  • Mentor peers and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing sales culture.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Business to Business (B2B) Sales experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Merchant Services, payments, treasury management, or receivables sales experience.
  • Government banking, public sector, corporate banking, treasury, or financial services experience.
  • Demonstrated success developing new business and managing complex sales opportunities with commercial, corporate, or public-sector clients.
  • Strong consultative selling, business development, prospecting, and relationship management skills.
  • Experience presenting to executive-level stakeholders and leading strategic client discussions.
  • Deep understanding of payment ecosystems, merchant acquiring, electronic receivables, and payment modernization trends.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional partners, navigate matrixed organizations, and drive results.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executive presence.

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
