JOB SUMMARY:
The Communications Coordinator supports the daily operations of the communications team responsible for advancing Truth Initiative’s mission through strategic communications. Designed for an early-career professional looking to build a strong foundation in communications, this role provides hands-on, cross-functional experience across key disciplines, including media affairs, editorial content, social media, internal communications, and digital strategy. Working under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Brand, Communications and Marketing, the Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the timely and cohesive execution of communications initiatives that promote Truth Initiative’s goals and activities, while gaining valuable experience in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (*ESSENTIAL DUTIES):
This position is based in Washington, D.C. with a hybrid work schedule of three days in the office and two telework days.
COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
The salary range for this role is starting at $60,000-$62,000 per year on a national basis. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to qualifications for the role, relevant work experience, skillset, internal equity, location, and certifications, consistent with applicable law. Salary is just one part of our total rewards package which additionally includes performance bonus for eligible roles, and competitive benefits.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (*ESSENTIAL DUTIES):
- Provide operational and logistical support for cross-functional communications initiatives, including coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, capturing meeting notes, and tracking follow-up actions to support effective collaboration across departments. *
- Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading a variety of communications materials for internal and external audiences, including press releases, media pitches, newsletters, website content, social media copy, and other communications assets. *
- Coordinate the review and approval process for communications materials by routing content through internal stakeholders, tracking feedback, incorporating revisions, and ensuring projects move efficiently while meeting deadlines. *
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of departmental activities to ensure timely delivery of projects, including contributing to content calendars and project management tools for communications deliverables. *
- Manage the distribution of a daily news bulletin to staff spotlighting top organizational media mentions and industry news. *
- Maintain and regularly update media contact and distribution lists, assist in pulling background and briefing documents on reporters, and support press release distribution.
- Manage, maintain and steward a database of spokespeople, including teachers, students, and young adult advocates.
- Manage tracking system for updating and archiving website content, ensuring content stays up to date.
- Assist in tracking and compiling performance metrics for communications initiatives, helping measure the effectiveness of media relations, digital content, and other communications efforts.
- Assist in drafting and development of social media content with guidance and input from the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Journalism, Marketing, or related field preferred.
- 1–2 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, content development, marketing, or related roles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with outstanding attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with productivity tools such as Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with social media platforms, content management systems, or project tracking tools.
