Role brief

growthroles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Take charge of sales results across North and Central Europe, turning market and channel opportunities into practical plans
  • Shape the regional go-to-market approach around local competition and how established each market is
  • Choose how budget and hiring capacity are spread across markets and channels, shifting resources toward stronger returns
  • Coach senior sales leaders on pipeline discipline, performance improvement, and building successors
  • Stay close to field operations through regular visits with sales teams and local offices

What you bring

  • You have owned regional or business-level commercial results and have improved performance where sales were underperforming
  • You bring deep SMB sales knowledge, ideally from payments, fintech, or another SMB technology field
  • You have led senior sales leaders, including setting targets, forecasting, and distributing resources across multiple markets

Who this fits

This London, office-based director role suits a leader who can move between regional strategy and hands-on sales-floor work. Expect regular travel and direct time with sales teams. You’ll lead senior sales leaders across the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

From the employer

Director of Sales, North & Central Europe

Location: London, United Kingdom (office based)

Team description

North & Central Europe is one of SumUp's biggest and most competitive sales regions, spanning the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. As the region has grown, we've moved from a country led model to a structure where sales leaders each specialise in one channel across the region, giving them the focus to go deeper while staying joined up across markets.

This role sits above that structure as the single owner of commercial performance across the region: deciding where budget and capacity should go, setting the pace on forecasting and pipeline discipline, and developing the leadership team behind ambitious growth targets.

It's a rare opportunity to shape a brand new regional structure from the ground up, working across some of SumUp's most complex and most competitive markets, while staying close enough to the field to inspire teams and help them solve their toughest problems.

What you'll do

  • Own commercial performance across all sales channels in the region, working closely with sales leaders to spot opportunities for markets and channels to perform even better, and turning those insights into practical plans that lift results
  • Build a clear go to market plan for the region that accounts for local competition and market maturity
  • Decide where to invest budget and hiring capacity across markets and channels, and reallocate resource towards the areas delivering the strongest returns
  • Support and develop senior sales leaders to strengthen pipeline leadership, accelerate performance, and ensure long-term succession
  • Spend regular time in the field and in local sales offices, working directly alongside reps and managers to stay close to what's actually happening on the ground

You'll be great for this role if

  • You have proven ownership of regional or business level commercial outcomes, with a track record of turning around underperformance rather than only scaling something that already worked
  • You have strong commercial understanding of SMB sales, ideally gained through high exposure to sales environments such as payments, fintech or another SMB technology sector
  • You have extensive experience leading senior sales leaders, including setting targets, forecasting, and allocating budget and capacity across several markets
  • You're comfortable operating across both strategy and execution, including regular travel and time spent on the sales floor rather than working from behind a desk
  • You have an ability to build trust quickly with senior stakeholders, inspire teams towards more ambitious targets, and hold people accountable for delivering on them
