Who this fits

This is a director-level leadership role for someone who wants to build a global function and can work through ambiguity, influence without direct authority, and combine strategic direction with hands-on delivery. The position is UK-based and remote, with hybrid flexibility from a Sulzer location. Occasional international travel is expected, typically below fifteen percent, with collaboration across regions and time zones.

From the employer

Sulzer is a leading engineering company with a proud heritage of innovation. Join our global team to grow your expertise and develop innovative solutions that enable a prosperous and more sustainable society.

About the role

At Sulzer, we don't just keep industry moving, we help some of the world's most critical sectors operate more efficiently, reliably and sustainably. With a heritage spanning almost 200 years, more than 13,000 employees worldwide and operations serving customers across over 160 countries, Sulzer is a global leader in fluid engineering and services. As we continue to evolve and strengthen our customer-focused aftermarket offering, we are looking for an exceptional leader to build and scale a key global capability.

We are looking for a commercially driven leader to take ownership of Sulzer's global warranty and claims management strategy, building a world-class function that protects profitability while delivering outstanding customer outcomes. As Global Head of Commercial Claims (Warranty), you will lead the development of a centralised global claims capability, bringing consistency, governance and commercial rigour to a diverse international portfolio of customer claims.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and develop Sulzer's global commercial claims strategy and operating model
  • Manage, coach and grow a high-performing global team, initially leading two direct reports with expansion planned
  • Drive consistent claim assessment, negotiation and settlement approaches across multiple regions and businesses
  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex and high-value customer claims
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Legal, Finance and Commercial teams to deliver robust claim outcomes
  • Establish governance, reporting, performance metrics and best-practice processes
  • Balance customer satisfaction with commercial, contractual and financial protection
  • Influence stakeholders globally, often without direct authority, to drive timely decision-making and resolution
  • Create a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Support the long-term growth and maturity of Sulzer's Global Centre of Claims Excellence

What We're Looking For

We're less interested in someone who has spent their entire career processing warranty claims and more interested in a commercially astute leader who can build, influence and drive change.

You will likely bring:

  • Senior leadership experience within commercial, contracts, claims, dispute resolution, customer operations or similar environments
  • Proven experience leading teams and developing people
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess risk, negotiate outcomes and protect business value
  • Experience operating in complex matrix organisations and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A customer-focused mindset balanced with sound business judgement
  • The confidence to make decisions in ambiguous and evolving situations
  • International experience or a demonstrated ability to operate effectively across global cultures and markets
  • Sufficient technical curiosity and understanding to interpret engineering findings and challenge where appropriate, without needing to be the technical expert

Who Will Thrive Here?

This role is ideal for an ambitious leader looking for a genuine step up in scope and impact.

You'll enjoy this opportunity if you:

  • Like building rather than maintaining
  • Enjoy solving complex business challenges
  • Are comfortable operating with ambiguity and creating structure where it doesn't yet exist
  • Take ownership and drive outcomes without waiting for direction
  • Can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
  • Enjoy collaborating across different functions, cultures and time zones
  • Get energy from influencing change and delivering measurable results

This role is unlikely to suit someone seeking highly defined processes, predictable workflows or a heavily established structure.

Location & Travel

  • UK-based remote role, with flexibility for hybrid working from any Sulzer location
  • International travel on an occasional basis (typically less than 15%)
  • Regular collaboration with colleagues and customers across multiple regions worldwide

What we offer you

  • A fully remote home based role with occasional travel across regions.
  • A competitive basic salary
  • Annual personal bonus scheme based on company and personal performance
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • 33 days annual leave.
  • Defined pension contributions.
  • Access to Medicash helping you cover everyday health costs like dental optical and physiotherapy plus a range of wellbeing perks.
  • Confidential support via Employee Assistance Programmes.
  • Access to discounts on shopping entertainment lifestyle plus opportunity to apply for Costco membership.
  • Discounted personal car leasing for you your family and friends.
  • Long Service Awards celebrating your commitment.
  • Continuous learning opportunities through Sulzer Learning Pathways.
  • As a Silver Award holder of the MoD Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, we welcome and support veterans, reservists and Cadet Adult Volunteers with policies for training, camps and deployment, plus a growing internal military network.
