Role brief

growthroles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Bring a major sports client's product from an unclear brief through setup, onboarding, testing and launch, then maintain it
  • Build AI-based automations and utilities to shorten delivery work and improve client outcomes
  • Keep AI services dependable after release by checking their inputs and outputs and spotting failures early
  • Recreate faults using configuration, data and expected behaviour, then explain the issue clearly to Engineering
  • Select product-area fixes with engineers, update clients on progress and constraints, and guide junior teammates

What you bring

  • You have put an AI automation, pipeline step or tool into real use, beyond using chatbots
  • You have launched and continued to run a client-facing product or integration from its initial brief
  • Your background includes technical work such as support, integrations, QA or development, followed by ownership of client or product outcomes
  • You can work with APIs, SDKs, configuration and data without needing to write core product code

Who this fits

This suits a hands-on senior contributor who can move work forward with incomplete information and communicate plainly with clients and technical teams. You will guide one or two junior teammates while staying closely involved in delivery. The role is fully remote for someone based in South Africa.

ABOUT US

Storyteller is a high-growth B2B SaaS company that helps leading sports, media and entertainment brands create and deliver engaging content experiences across their owned digital products. Our platform includes native iOS, Android and Web SDKs, publishing tools, analytics and advertising support.

We are remote-first, product-led and highly focused on execution. We value ownership, direct communication, sound judgment and people who improve the way work gets done rather than accepting recurring friction.

About The Role

We need a builder who can run a client.

You'll own a major sports client's product rollout and the AI-enabled services that run alongside it. You'll configure it, build the automations around it, investigate what breaks, and keep it running and improving after launch. There's no project-manager layer and no handoff once it's live. It's yours.

You won't write the core product code, but you'll know the product, its APIs, SDKs and configuration well enough to find problems yourself and give the client straight answers on trade-offs.

What You'll Do

  • Take client products and integrations from a messy brief to live (configuration, onboarding, testing, rollout) and keep owning them afterwards.
  • Build and run AI-powered automations, tools and workflows that speed up delivery and make the product better for clients.
  • Keep AI services reliable after launch: know what goes in and what comes out, check the output, and catch problems before the client does.
  • Reproduce issues yourself by checking config, data and expected behaviour, then hand Engineering a clear problem, not a forwarded email.
  • Decide what's worth fixing in your product area and work directly with engineers to ship it.
  • Keep the client clear on progress and honest about constraints, and turn what you learn into changes Product and Engineering act on.
  • Direct one or two more junior teammates, and leave behind tools and automation that make the next cycle easier.

What We're Looking For

  • You've built something with AI that's in real use: an automation, an agentic step in a pipeline, or a tool people rely on. Not chatbot use.
  • You've taken a client-facing product or integration from brief to live, and kept running it after launch.
  • You started somewhere technical (support, integrations, QA, development or similar) and grew into owning client or product outcomes.
  • You're comfortable with APIs, SDKs, configuration and data, without needing to be an engineer.
  • You've worked somewhere the process didn't exist yet: a startup, a scale-up, a fast-moving agency, or something you started yourself.
  • You make good calls with incomplete information and don't wait to be told before making progress.
  • You communicate clearly and directly with both clients and technical teams.

Nice To Have

  • A background in sport, media, live events or ad-tech.
  • Experience with SaaS or developer-facing products: SDKs, CMS, analytics.

This Isn't For You If

Your recent work is mainly running ceremonies, RAID logs, steering packs or account relationships, or you'd rather manage the people doing the work than do it yourself.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

  • Short call focused on your experience and use of AI.
  • Paid take-home task based on a real delivery and AI-operations problem. Use AI as much as you like; we'll ask what you accepted, changed, checked and rejected.
  • Final interview with a member of the team.
