From the employer

Who we are looking for

As an Investment Strategist at State Street Investment Management (SSIM), you will represent our broad range of investment solutions to internal and external audiences, showing how they can best be positioned and used in investor portfolios. You will champion the growth of SSIM’s investment solutions that are listed and registered in Japan by supporting the Intermediary and Institutional Client Coverage distribution teams. As a subject matter expert, you will support Client Coverage across the full sales cycle, from prospecting through to closing business and client retention. Based within the Chief Business Office, you will partner with the Client Coverage teams to author and communicate detailed technical expertise on our investment strategies and how our Japanese clients can implement them.

Aligned with the distribution footprint of SSIM’s Client Coverage team in Japan, you will provide specialist expertise to those teams and to our clients across the Japanese market.

Why this role is important to us

The team you will be joining is part of SSIM, one of the largest asset managers in the world, serving governments, institutions and financial intermediaries across the globe. With more than four decades of experience and trillions of dollars in assets under management, we offer one of the broadest selections of strategies across asset classes, risk profiles, regions and styles. As pioneers in index, ETF and ESG investing, we are always inventing new ways to invest.

Join us if you are ready for the challenge of making your mark in the asset management industry from day one.

What you will be responsible for

As an Investment Strategist you will:

  • Collaborate closely with local and global portfolio managers and analysts to build a deep understanding of our investment approaches, underlying securities and results, so that you can represent every facet of each strategy internally and externally.
  • Partner with SSIM Client Coverage and Marketing teams to position our investment strategies with target clients and prospects, supporting net new asset and revenue targets in Japan.
  • Develop and deliver investment, market and business communications to existing and prospective Japanese clients in one-on-one, small group and large audience settings.
  • Provide updates on financial market performance, economic trends and the investment outlook as articulated by SSIM’s investment teams.
  • Act as a spokesperson for SSIM, articulating our investment process and market outlook with conviction and advocating for our solutions.
  • Prepare for client meetings, including updating presentation materials, portfolio reviews, competitor analysis and market update slides.
  • Continually generate new content ideas, and adapt global investment content, to support the promotion of our investment solutions in Japan.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders across SSIM, including Marketing, Product and Capital Markets.
  • Support market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and gaps in the addressable market for the Client Coverage team.

What we value

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with sales teams and clients
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, in both Japanese and English (written and spoken)
  • Proven investment writing skills
  • Solution-oriented mindset
  • Strong technical ability and investment industry knowledge
  • Demonstrated knowledge of economics and capital markets, including global macro and market themes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the asset management industry and of SSIM’s investment solutions for the Japanese market

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing Japan securities industry qualifications or licensing (for example, JSDA Class I Sales Representative) preferred
  • Degree in a financial or analytical discipline (or equivalent) preferred
  • CFA designation, or progress toward it, is desirable
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in financial services is required, including some experience in a sales or product specialist role
  • Exposure to financial systems such as FactSet, Morningstar Direct and Bloomberg is helpful
  • Proficiency in applying statistics, finance and economics to investment management is required
