Who are we hiring?
The Director Communications position will lead key public relations and communications initiatives across Sphere and Sphere Studios. This role is responsible for helping to execute the company’s communications strategy across creative content, brand initiatives, and ticketing campaigns - supporting areas including original experiences, live residencies, partnerships, and broader corporate priorities.
Reporting to the VP Communications, the Director also plays a critical role in managing issues that impact Sphere’s businesses or public figures. This includes collaborating with senior leaders across the business to craft effective communications strategies, shape our public relations with consumers, engage with media, and develop rapid response plans to protect the company and its interests.
What will you do?
- Partner directly with VP Communications to execute on communication strategy, elevate communications, and support key priorities that further the Sphere experiences in the Las Vegas market.
- Develop and execute ongoing customer-facing communications campaigns to establish a steady drumbeat of coverage on new and ongoing Sphere events and initiatives, and capture attention away from new and emerging competitors.
- Work closely with communications and other counterparts across the company, including in Sphere Studios, marketing, partnerships, corporate events and sales, to support key business goals.
- Conduct strategic media outreach that supports the company’s goals and creates compelling press strategies around key priorities; react and respond to incoming media inquiries and act as company spokesperson when needed.
- Identify and secure opportunities that elevate the profile of the company’s executives in consumer-facing media, including through strategic speaking engagements and interviews.
- Identify and manage external agencies, when needed, to help drive specific company initiatives.
- Cultivate, maintain and lead a high-performing communications team.
- Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.
What do you need to succeed?
- 7 to 10 years relevant public relations and media experience with strong media relationships at top-tier outlets and organizations across entertainment, marketing, and lifestyle sectors.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence working with executives in high pressure settings, and under tight and unexpected deadlines.
- Expertise in guiding senior leaders through communications strategic plans, announcements, and crisis management.
- Strategic thinker with the acumen to align key issues across the business.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle many projects at once.
- Proficient in the development of integrated communications plans as well as crisis communications.
- Experience working on a team in a matrix organization.
- Experience leading and managing outside consultants and agencies.
