About the Team:

The Data & Digital team distributes the South China Morning Post’s award-winning journalism on platforms and makes targeted recommendations to the newsroom to improve traffic, engagement and subscriptions.

Purpose of the Position:

The SCMP is looking for a Senior Production Editor to bring ideas and best practices from your expereince to social media distribution and optimisation.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead and oversee SCMP’s digital image, tone, and brand across all social networks
  • Devise, refine, and execute a comprehensive social media strategy with defined newsroom deliverables to scale audience growth and deepen engagement across all platforms
  • Spearhead bespoke content production optimized for each platform, setting benchmark editorial standards to engage unique target audiences
  • Lead real-time coverage during breaking news events, and drive high-level community management
  • Drive experimentation with emerging platforms, new formats, and AI-assisted tools to expand reach and grow traffic
  • Analyze complex data and metrics to deliver strategic insights, performance benchmarks, and actionable recommendations to the wider newsroom
  • Partner across editorial desks to optimize workflows, standardize social publishing SOPs, and mentor junior team members
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
  • Degree holder in Journalism or Media with a minimum of 5+ years’ newsroom experience in an English-language publication
  • Extensive direct experience with news gathering, copy editing, CMS operations, and social media distribution in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  • Deep expertise across Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging platforms, with strong knowledge of platform algorithms and audience behaviors
  • Exceptional news judgment with the ability to maintain uncompromising accuracy while managing multiple complex stories under tight deadlines
  • Proven leadership and collaborative skills to drive cross-desk initiatives and lead change effectively
  • Advanced proficiency in digital journalism operations, including social publishing systems, CMS, and analytics platforms
  • Excellent English language skills; Cantonese or Mandarin proficiency is a plus


Work location will be at Causeway Bay office.
