About the role

As a Next Gen Community Engagement Worker, this is your opportunity to build trusted relationships with children, young people, and families experiencing disadvantage, supporting their wellbeing through school and community connections.

Reporting to the Corp Officer Team Leader, this is a 2 year max-term, part-time role offering 20 hours a week, located in Ballarat, VIC.

How you will make an impact 

  • Builds strong, trusted relationships with schools, acting as a key contact for student wellbeing and support needs

  • Engages school staff to identify and respond to challenges facing disadvantaged children, young people, and families

  • Coordinates targeted, discreet practical assistance (e.g. food programs, school supplies) aligned with identified needs

  • Develops positive, professional relationships with young people, supporting wellbeing through presence and respectful engagement

  • Facilitates pathways between schools, families, and Salvation Army services through collaboration with local teams

  • Maintains accurate records, participates in team processes, and ensures compliance with policies, funding, and professional standards

What you will bring

  • Experience in youth work, community engagement, education support, wellbeing, or a related field (formal qualifications desirable but not essential).

  • Demonstrated experience working with children, young people, and/or families, particularly those experiencing disadvantage.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with schools, teams, and community partners.

  • Clear understanding of professional boundaries and a strong commitment to child safety and wellbeing.

  • Current Working With Children Check.

  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel locally.
