The Medical Writer (MW) supports the development of scientifically accurate, evidence-based content across a variety of formats. Working under the guidance of senior team members, the Medical Writer translates complex clinical and scientific data into clear, engaging materials that align with client objectives. Individuals without prior medical writing experience will build core competencies in medical writing, communication, and project collaboration through structured guidance, feedback, and progressive responsibility, while medical writers with prior experience will operate with greater independence.

Key Responsibilities

Content Development

  • Draft and revise scientific content, including slide decks, manuscripts, training materials, and other deliverables, with level of supervision commensurate with experience.
  • Interpret clinical and preclinical data and translate findings into clear, accurate written content and visual representations.
  • Learn, apply, and consistently follow AMA style and client-specific guidelines.
  • Conduct literature searches and organize references using appropriate systems and tools.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Participate in internal and client meetings to support content discussions.
  • Actively listen during meetings and capture accurate notes and action items as needed.
  • Accurately and efficiently incorporate direct feedback from internal and external reviewers.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Work with manager to maintain 85% billable utilization goal.

Project Support

  • Learn and follow team standards and processes, including gaining proficiency in any software or other technical tools required for project completion.
  • Track tasks, timelines, and file handoff using appropriate tools (eg, Workfront, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams), with guidance as needed.
  • Track and report time accurately.
  • Build efficiency and deliver work within budgeted hours.
  • Collaborate with team to prepare materials for regulatory and editorial review.

Team Integration & Professional Skills

  • Work with manager to review SOPs and follow them; ask questions to understand processes and rationale.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, accountability, and reliability; communicate effectively with team members and contribute to a collaborative environment.
  • Develop an understanding of team roles and responsibilities and collaborate accordingly.
  • Receive feedback positively and work closely with manager/Scientific Director on skill refinement.
  • Prepare for time off using planning templates and ensure appropriate delegation of access as responsibilities increase.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral-level degree in life sciences (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent).
  • Strong interest in medical writing and scientific communication.
  • Detail-oriented and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to balance work on multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneNote, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn AMA style and reference tools (eg, EndNote).
  • Prior medical writing experience is beneficial but not required; level of independence will align with experience.

This compensation range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Precision, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
