Job Description

This position is an opportunity for a skilled communications professional with a strategic mindset, media relations experience and strong project management and writing skills to manage external communications plans and programs. The team member will join the Global Communications & Media team, based in Motorola Solutions’ Chicago headquarters, and report to the head of North America Communications.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic business partner and communications counselor to North America Enterprise Security sales leaders with a focus on building relationships and gathering insights that can be used in messaging and media pitching

  • Partner with product and marketing teams to align communications activities

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic external communication plans and programs that tell the company’s story to reporters, investors and other key audiences

  • Create well-crafted, concise and highly engaging communications including pitches, press releases, blog posts, and other materials needed to tell our enterprise security stories

  • Build and maintain key media relationships and regularly pitch national, local and trade media with enterprise security stories

  • Manage communications activities at and around priority North America tradeshows

  • Read enterprise security and technology news; support monitoring, measurement and crisis communications

Specific Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required; journalism, communications or English preferred

  • 7+ years of communications experience with a corporation or public relations agency or in journalism

  • Strategic thinker who can build a network, gather information and translate it into communications projects and plans that generate coverage and clear results

  • Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills

  • Savvy media strategist who knows how to leverage top-tier, trade and local outlets for earned coverage, as well as paid, shared and owned channels

  • Seasoned professional who exerts influence in navigating all levels of the organization and consistently exhibits strong judgment and commitment to excellence

  • Detailed project manager who leads complex workstreams with cross-functional contributors, meets tight deadlines and easily adjusts as circumstances change

  • Serious commitment to excellence, quality and attention to detail

  • Experience working with sales teams, marketing and company leaders preferred


Target Base Salary Range: $105,000 - $115,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 7+ years of communications experience with a corporation or public relations agency or in journalism

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position. (GC/CITIZEN ONLY)
