About the Role

Happen Bank’s Second Line Compliance Department is seeking an Independent Compliance Risk Manager – Marketing to provide oversight and guidance across the Bank’s marketing and advertising activities. In this role, you’ll partner with Marketing, Legal, Product Compliance, and Product to identify regulatory risk, establish appropriate standards and controls, and ensure customer communications comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.

You’ll serve as a subject-matter expert for marketing compliance, helping the business identify risk early while enabling compliant, effective marketing across channels.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for Marketing Compliance, providing independent oversight and guidance across the Bank’s marketing program
  • Establish and maintain marketing compliance standards, policies, procedures, and controls that align with applicable regulatory requirements and the Bank’s risk appetite
  • Ensure marketing and advertising activities comply with applicable laws and regulations, including ECOA, UDAAP, TILA, CAN-SPAM, and Fair Lending requirements
  • As needed, review and approve marketing materials across email, web, digital advertising, landing pages, social media, direct mail, and other customer communications, ensuring required disclosures, disclaimers, and terms are clear and accurate
  • Maintain the Bank’s marketing and communications guide, including approved disclosures, and partner with Legal and Product Compliance to develop new guidance as requirements evolve
  • Assess regulatory risks and controls across marketing processes and campaigns, partnering with Marketing, Product, Legal, and Risk to identify issues early and develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies
  • Maintain and improve automated systems that support marketing asset reviews, using AI where appropriate to efficiently review content, identify potential compliance concerns, and keep guidance current while maintaining appropriate human oversight
  • Stay current on regulatory developments affecting marketing and advertising in financial services and support internal audits and regulatory examinations related to marketing practices

About You

  • 4+ years of experience in marketing compliance, consumer protection, or financial services compliance
  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong working knowledge of consumer protection requirements including ECOA, UDAAP, TILA, CAN-SPAM, and Fair Lending regulations, and the controls needed to mitigate related risks
  • Experience working in fast-paced, dynamic environments and delivering high-quality results across competing priorities, aggressive timelines, and evolving requirements
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to partner effectively across Marketing, Legal, Product, Risk, and other business teams
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify compliance risks and apply sound judgment in fast-moving marketing environments
  • You take ownership of your work and proactively identify and escalate compliance risks before they become larger issues
  • You’re organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to quickly understand how business objectives, customer communications, and evolving regulatory requirements intersect
  • You actively look for ways AI can improve how you review marketing content and assess compliance risk, while maintaining a high bar for accuracy, data sensitivity, regulatory requirements, and where human judgment and validation are needed

Nice to Have

  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or similar professional certification
  • Experience supporting regulatory examinations and compliance audits, including developing and tracking corrective actions
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and other Microsoft Office tools

Work Location
San Francisco, Lehi

The above locations are eligible offices for this role. The locations have been determined to foster in-person collaboration with this role’s team or the related business lines. We utilize a hybrid work model, and our teams are in-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. In-person attendance is essential for this role’s success, and remote placement will not be considered. Happen Bank offers relocation, based on actual job level.

While the position will primarily work local hours, Happen Bank is headquartered in Pacific Time and our ideal candidate will be flexible working across time zones when necessary.

Travel Requirements
As needed travel to Happen Bank offices and/or other locations, as needed.

Compensation
The target base salary range for this position is 90,000-125,000. The base salary of the role will be determined by job-related knowledge, experience, education, skills, and location. Base salary is just one part of Happen Bank's Total Rewards package. You may also be eligible for long-term awards (equity) and an annual bonus (which is based on company performance, employee performance and eligible earnings).
