The Business Development Supervisor will be based in our Los Angeles area to support our cross-disciplinary Business Litigation practice, as well as our growing California offices including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Sacramento and will be responsible for implementing business development strategies, driving a range of new business and marketing initiatives, leading pitches, proposals and directory submissions, and providing strategic business development support for events, sponsorships and conferences. The role will also support industry projects in media, entertainment, music, sports and gaming.

The Business Development Supervisor will support, in conjunction with their practice group and industry group BD colleagues, the lawyers across our offices in California on marketing and BD initiatives. These initiatives span practices and industries and include events support, identifying and facilitating sponsorships, drafting and maintaining marketing materials and presentations, leading California lawyer-led pitch and proposal drafts and California award submissions.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with stakeholders to identify and facilitate cross-selling opportunities for the Business Litigation practice and California offices across the firm, including crafting and executing a range of go-to-market strategies around these opportunities.
  • Lead the execution of business development and client growth initiatives for the California offices, working closely with partners and office leadership to coordinate client targeting, relationship expansion, cross-selling efforts, market visibility programs, and strategic growth priorities across the California platform.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional business development initiatives for the Media, Entertainment, Music, Sports, and Gaming sectors, partnering with attorneys and firmwide teams to develop pitches and proposals, maintain industry-specific experience and capability materials, manage directory and award submissions, and execute strategic client development and profile-raising initiatives that support practice growth and market visibility.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of firmwide lawyers, Practice Groups, Go-to-Market Teams, and Industry Groups (notably their goals and key clients) and the intersection with the California offices specifically, applying an understanding of plans to support cross-selling initiatives, events, award and directory submissions and drafting other compelling content.
  • Organize and drive client targeting program for supported areas, including prompting and monitoring pursuit activities, and tracking and reporting on results.
  • Oversee and coordinate the delivery of strategic research on potential clients, competitors and industry developments to identify business trends and opportunities and ensure that King &Spalding is optimally positioned to grow market share.
  • Lead, draft, and coordinate value-driven content for RFP responses and dynamic presentations in connection with pitches and other new business opportunities. Maintain pitch/RFP files, track in the pitch notification system and obtain outcome updates. Streamline pitch and proposal responses by mapping and leveraging experience within the Foundation database.
  • Identify and facilitate King & Spalding participation in sponsorships, conferences, memberships, and other key profile-building opportunities for the team and individual lawyers.
  • Handle firm-hosted BD events, including receptions, client entertainment outings, substantive presentations, and webinars, collaborating closely with participating lawyers and Marketing Department colleagues on invitation list development, event materials, participant tracking, engagement, on-site management, targeted follow-up activities, and overall ROI on related activity.
  • Routinely update PowerPoint pitch decks, fact sheets, and website content. Develop and maintain a targeted approach to delivering new content marketing to clients and prospective clients.
  • Work with the Communications team to promote the practice through social media, PR, and directory submissions. Share key trends and thought leadership opportunities with the Communications team for targeted media opportunities.
  • Manage legal directory and award submissions and assist the Communications team in the generation of matters and other information for submissions. Facilitate streamlined matter and reference collection process
  • Familiarize and become a power user and champion of BD technology, including Experience Management System (Foundation) and CRM system (Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Support ad hoc BD and firm initiatives as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or JD a plus.
  • 5+ years of professional marketing and BD experience, preferably in a law firm environment, with a strong interest in or track record in litigation or disputes practices.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to work effectively with partners and collaboratively with other lawyers and business services colleagues throughout the firm.
  • Advanced project management capability with attention to detail and an ability to prioritize and execute multiple ongoing tasks under tight deadlines in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
  • Flexible, proactive, big-picture, forward-thinking, energetic, and detail-oriented team player willing to lend support where needed and beyond the scope of their role.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presentation, writing, and verbal, with the ability to tailor messages for varied audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, incorporating feedback effectively.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of many of our matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), experience with customer relationship management/content systems (BD Hub, Foundation), and familiarity with artificial intelligence tools (Microsoft Copilot, Harvey).

Pay Transparency Range:

Los Angeles: The anticipated full-time annualized salary range is $110,000 - $135,000

The salary offer will be contingent upon various factors, including but not limited to, relevant experience, internal equity, market data, job location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
