As Head of Group External Communications, you are a senior leader responsible for protecting and enhancing the Bank’s reputation and valuation through active engagement with the media and providing advice and support around developing themes and issues that could affect its reputation. This includes developing and executing a proactive media strategy in line with the Bank’s strategic positioning, building and nurturing journalist relationships with top-tier Swiss and international media outlets, financial calendar communications and other external news events, issues response, and leading and developing an international team of media professionals. This role reports to the Head of Group Communications.YOUR CHALLENGE
- Strategy Development: Create and execute a comprehensive media strategy, including proactive media engagement and corporate messaging, aligned with the Bank’s strategy and positioning
- Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with top-tier Swiss and international journalists, influencers, and national/regional press
- Financial Communications: Actively support financial calendar events, including full- and half-year results, interim management statements, AGM and ad hoc announcements
- Issues Management: Prepared for and advise on response strategies, which support the Bank’s reputation for doing the right thing, and act as a primary spokesperson
- Content Creation: Oversee the writing, editing, and approval of press releases, media advisories, talking points, position papers, and pitches
- Team Leadership: Partner with and advise the Head of Group Communications as part of developing and executing the Group’s Communications strategy and plan; connect, mentor, and lead an international team, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, including Investor Relations, Finance, Legal and Regulatory, among others
- Monitoring & Analysis: Oversee media monitoring and establish meaningful data analysis to gauge sentiment and inform strategies accordingly
YOUR PROFILE
- Experience: 10+ years proven experience in public relations or media relations, preferably in Wealth Management or Banking, with a demonstrated history of securing high-impact coverage and issues management
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, preferred
- Analytical Skills: Strong judgment and analytical skills for assessing risk and opportunity
- Communications Skills: Exceptional communication (written and verbal), strategic thinking, and strong interpersonal skills
- Media Relationships: Existing, strong relationships with key financial media contacts.
- Media Savvy: Demonstrable understanding of how media works, and the intersection of digital channels and LLMs
- Leadership: Ability to work with senior leaders in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure, particularly in crisis scenarios
- Collaborative, team player: Understands the value of working collaboratively across teams, functions and regions
- Networking: Ability to build and maintain strong external and internal relationships
- Fast-paced Environment: Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines
- Language: Fluent German and English required
