About Us
HireHawk connects skilled professionals with remote opportunities at U.S. and Canadian companies. This opportunity is with a founder-led personal-brand content business focused on helping clients share their expertise through natural, credible social content. The goal is to make each client more engaging while keeping them recognizably themselves.
About the Role
You’ll own post-production, working directly with the founder, who handles client conversations, filming, and guidance on the core messaging. There is no creative team: you’ll turn approximately 20-minute conversational recordings into polished short-form videos, primarily for Instagram and Facebook, using your own judgment to create a clear, natural narrative.
This is a full-time contractor role, Monday to Friday on Central Time (CT), for an editor who proactively moves work forward and becomes increasingly independent as they learn the founder’s preferences.
Responsibilities
- Turn conversational footage into focused short-form stories with strong hooks, clear structure, and pacing that gives viewers a reason to keep watching.
- Use the founder’s messaging guidance to identify the strongest moments and build a complete narrative without needing detailed, step-by-step editing instructions.
- Preserve each client’s voice, personality, and intended meaning while removing repetition, tangents, and distractions.
- Add accurate captions, thoughtful framing, B-roll, punch-ins, and supporting visuals when they improve clarity or engagement, not simply to add effects.
- Deliver clean audio and polished, platform-ready videos, checking subtitles, visual details, and overall flow before handoff.
- Keep recurring content and revisions organized across 4-6 clients, maintaining approximately 3-4 completed videos per day in total within the expected turnaround.
- Adapt your editing style to each client rather than applying the same formula to every speaker or brand.
- Take initiative on next steps, flag unclear messaging or delivery risks early, and apply feedback so future edits require less direction.
Requirements
Must-Have:
- A portfolio that includes Instagram Reels and relevant talking-head, interview, podcast, founder, executive, thought-leadership, or personal-brand content.
- Relevant professional video editing experience. We’re targeting 3-5 years, ideally including 2+ years in social content, but candidates with 1-2 years and an exceptional portfolio are encouraged to apply. Editing ability and editorial judgment matter more than years alone or a degree.
- Proficiency in CapCut, with strong fundamentals in captions, pacing, framing, B-roll, punch-ins, basic audio cleanup, and finishing.
- Strong short-form storytelling instincts: you understand why people stop scrolling, what belongs in the edit, and how to strengthen a message without making the speaker sound manufactured.
- Strong English comprehension and communication, including the ability to understand conversational nuance and preserve the speaker’s meaning.
- Demonstrated initiative and independent judgment, with the organization to manage recurring edits, revisions, and delivery deadlines without waiting for detailed instructions.
- Comfort working directly with a founder without a creative team, responding constructively to feedback, and working Monday to Friday on Central Time.
Nice to Have:
- Previous experience working directly with a founder or in a startup, strongly preferred.
- Experience using Descript, strongly preferred.
- A background editing for personal brands, consultants, coaches, marketing or content agencies, podcast creators, or professional-service and local business owners.
- Experience adapting videos for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, or other social channels.
- Familiarity with Premiere Pro or comparable professional editing software. There is no specific preference for Premiere Pro; CapCut remains required.
Benefits
- Access to a $200K+ perk marketplace with discounts on 150+ global services.
- Option to withdraw up to 50% of approved earnings before payday.
