At Houston Methodist, the Social Media Specialist position is responsible for supporting content marketing efforts across all social media channels. This position contributes to the execution and measurement of messaging strategies and creative formats, ensuring content aligns with business objectives, brand guidelines and platform best practices. The Social Media Specialist helps coordinate a robust community management program and helps ensure all social media channels are consistently populated with content.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree or an additional four years of relevant experience (in addition to the minimum experience required below) in lieu of degree

EXPERIENCE
  • Three years of experience managing and developing content for social media channels

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
  • Working knowledge of current and emerging social media platforms, content formats and platform best practices
  • Ability to interpret social media analytics and identify opportunities to improve content performance and audience engagement
  • Ability to develop creative, audience-focused content and convey complex ideas in clear, engaging written formats
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, subject matter experts and cross-functional stakeholders

  • Maintains relationships with marketing stakeholders, subject matter experts and partner agencies to implement and manage social media initiatives that support business objectives.
  • Helps support community feedback is promptly responded to with care and courtesy consistent with the Houston Methodist ICARE values and legal guidelines.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, researchers, health professionals and other employees to incorporate relevant social media techniques into the corporate culture, following best practices.

  • Actively monitors available content and current events to ensure all channels are consistently populated with timely, relevant material, aligned with platform best practices.
  • Shares observations to marketing stakeholders on using social media to increase audience engagement and familiarity of Houston Methodist.

  • Helps ensure that a robust and effective editorial calendar is maintained across HM active social channels.
  • Helps coordinate community management of social media accounts, collaborating with agency partnerships and leveraging technology solutions available.
  • Supports that content aligns with business objectives and brand guidelines.
  • Ensures that guidelines concerning the handling of Personal Health Information (PHI) are promoted and followed across all Houston Methodist social media accounts.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Helps optimize social media channels and content to ensure maximum effectiveness, adhering to budget to ensure efficiency.
  • Assists in the measurement and reporting of the impact of social media on overall marketing efforts.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Keeps current with social media trends and best practices and leverages social media technologies available.
  • Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development.
