Who this fits
This contractor role suits an experienced event marketer ready to run EMEA field programs as the regional owner, with support from a small US team. The role is remote and requires the right to work in the country or hub where you are based. You’ll need to overlap with US time zones and travel; the listing leaves the specific hours and travel share as placeholders.
From the employer
Expo is the open-source React Native framework and the cloud platform built around it. Developers use the Expo SDK, Expo Router, and Expo CLI to write universal apps for Android, iOS, and the web, then use Expo Application Services (EAS) to run the rest of the app lifecycle: EAS Build, Submit, Update, Workflows, and Observe, with EAS Simulators in preview now. We are building mobile AI infrastructure: the framework and services that developers, and the coding agents they work with, use to get real apps into production. React Native is the proof point.
Expo started in 2015. Today the framework sees 2M+ weekly npm downloads and 100K+ weekly active developers, the main repo has 50K+ GitHub stars, and teams at Brex, Coinbase, Flexport, RBI, SpaceX, and Sweetgreen build with it. We are a founding member of the React Foundation and a remote-friendly team of roughly 50 people.
About the role
Expo already shows up across Europe. In 2026 that has meant React Native London meetups, a London customer dinner, App.js Conf in Kraków (Software Mansion organizes it and Expo is its main partner), React Summit in Amsterdam, WeAreDevelopers in Berlin, Agent Conf in Warsaw, React Native Connection in Paris, meetups in Prague, Brno, and Helsinki, and next.app devCon in Berlin. Today that program is run by a small US-based team.
This role puts an owner in the region. You will own Expo's field presence in EMEA end to end, from deciding which events are worth our time to the follow-up that turns a booth conversation into a pipeline opportunity in HubSpot. You will work closely with Samantha, who leads field marketing in the US, and with our sales team, and you will report to Dan Kelly, Head of Marketing. You will be based in [placeholder: country or hub], remote, with [placeholder] hours of overlap with our US team.
What you'll do
- Own the EMEA calendar. Evaluate, budget, and prioritize conferences, sponsorships, and speaking slots across the region in our Events Schedule, and make the call on what we skip.
- Run anchor conferences. Plan and deliver Expo's presence at events like App.js Conf (Kraków), next.app devCon(Berlin), React Summit (Amsterdam), React Advanced (London), and React Day Berlin: sponsorship terms, booth, speaker logistics, side events, and on-site execution.
- Host our own formats. Community meetups, hackathons, hands-on EAS workshops, and customer and prospect dinners planned with sales.
- Grow the community meetup program in Europe. Support organizers such as React Native London and React Brno, and partner-hosted meetups, through Meetup in a Box (our program for merch, banners, and food budgets for community organizers).
- Handle partner and sponsor logistics. Co-host events with ecosystem partners such as Software Mansion, Callstack, Sentry, and RevenueCat, and manage contracts, deliverables, and deadlines on both sides.
- Tie every event to pipeline. Build target account lists with sales before each event, capture leads cleanly and with proper consent, get them into HubSpot within days, run follow-up, and report sourced and influenced pipeline.
- Own vendors and budget. Source and manage local vendors for booths, print, merch, venues, and catering (international merch runs through local vendors, so lead times matter), track spend against results, and keep costs honest.
- Work across the team. Book Expo engineers and DevRel for talks and workshops, give the content team material worth publishing, and keep one global field playbook with Samantha.
What you bring
- 3+ years running field or event marketing for a developer tools, cloud, or B2B software company, with end-to-end ownership from planning through follow-up.
- A track record of running events in several European countries: venues, local vendors, cross-border shipping, and invoicing.
- Experience tying events to pipeline in a CRM with sales. HubSpot is a plus.
- Budget ownership and vendor negotiation. You can show what you spent and what it returned.
- Comfort with developer audiences. You can brief a technical speaker and tell a good workshop from a sales pitch.
- Working knowledge of GDPR and consent for event lead capture.
- The judgment and self-direction to be a team of one in the region, with support from a small US team.
- Based in [placeholder: country or hub] with the right to work there, able to overlap [placeholder] hours a day with US time zones, and able to travel about [placeholder]% of the time.
- Clear, direct written English.
Nice to have
- Relationships with React, React Native, or JavaScript community organizers and conference teams in Europe.
- Experience running hackathons or hands-on technical workshops.
- One or more additional European languages.
- Experience with Luma, Meetup.com, or Partiful for community events.
- Account-based programs for enterprise accounts.
- You use AI tools to take the busywork out of event operations (lists, invites, follow-up).
