From the employer

The Role:

As DAZN Japan enters its next growth phase, we are hiring a SVP of Marketing (equivalent to Chief Marketing Officer) to lead the strategic transformation and execution of our marketing function. This role is a core strategic investment to redefine our business structure, navigate complex market dynamics, and unlock long-term brand and enterprise value. Serving as the de facto CMO for the Japanese market, this leader must integrate brand, rights, product, and media sales into a unified growth engine. The ideal candidate must possess the rare combination of high-level strategic vision and the grit required to lead a team through intense, high-stakes operational pressure—such as major international tournament windows.

Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Multi-Disciplinary Governance: Lead, inspire, and manage a highly diverse marketing organization spanning Brand & Campaigns, Performance Marketing, CRM, Creative, Data Strategy, and Event Execution. Foster a culture of extreme accountability, speed, and data-driven decision-making under crisis.
  • Brand Building & Market Repositioning
Localize and embed DAZN’s global brand narrative into the Japanese market, while optimizing for local culture and sports fan psychology. Establish emotional and cultural brand value beyond “sports streaming,” and build enduring brand equity.
  • Integrated Marketing Driven by Rights
Maximize the impact of new rights acquisitions by designing marketing strategies that seamlessly integrate Rights, Production, and Media Sales.
  • Revenue-Linked Marketing Strategy
Develop pricing and packaging strategies that connect brand value with conversion (e.g., new bundling strategies with partners).
  • Off-Platform & Social Engagement
Expand brand touchpoints through off-platform engagement and social buzz creation to attract casual sports fans.
  • Global-Local Strategic Management
Harmonize global brand strategy with Japan’s unique fan and media culture to achieve optimal market fit.
  • Team Leadership & Campaign Execution
Build and inspire a high-performing marketing team to deliver impactful campaigns across paid, owned, and earned media. Foster a culture of experimentation and bold decision-making.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with internal creative teams and external agencies to push boundaries in media and technology, creating campaigns that captivate consumers and spark industry conversation.

  • 15+ years of professional marketing experience, with at least 10+ years in senior leadership or head-of-department roles (CMO/VP level) managing large, multi-disciplinary teams
  • Proven track record of directly overseeing and integrating diverse marketing functions, including: Brand & Campaigns, Performance Marketing, CRM, Internal/External Creative, Data Strategy & Analytics, and Large-Scale Event Execution
  • Senior marketing experience in sports, digital/OTT, mobile, entertainment, lifestyle, or bold FMCG brands
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing complex OPEX allocations, budget optimization, and driving ROI (such as LTV/CAC models and Freemium monetization strategies)
  • Experience leveraging advanced data tools and predictive signals to build preemptive churn defense and lifecycle marketing models
  • Strong background in brand architecture, integrated campaign management, and storytelling across digital and mass media
  • Experience in data-driven environments using paid and earned media to drive performance
  • Deep understanding of local Japanese fan psychology, media structures, and international sports culture.
  • Inspirational leadership style with a collaborative mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to learn continuously and focus on business-critical outcomes
  • Fluent in both Japanese and English (business-to-executive level) with the ability to secure buy-in and manage alignments across local leadership and global stakeholders
