Business Development – China
What is Cobre and what do we do?
Cobre is a corporate treasury and payments platform designed to elevate the way Latin American companies manage their finances. At Cobre, we build CFO-tech on top of owned payment rails in order to give real-time capabilities to domestic and cross border payments, empowering every peso that our clients move.
We are committed to eliminating friction between companies, their banking partners, their people and their money so that money movement becomes a growth driver, rather than a time-consuming task. In this pursuit, Cobre has grown to become a trusted provider of corporates and tech giants in the region, while building a profitable business that has grown 10x in the past 12 months.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for our first Business Development in China. Based in Shanghai or Shenzhen, this person will build Cobre’s client base in China, helping large Chinese companies, e-commerce platforms and tech firms expanding into Latin America, especially Mexico and Colombia, move money across borders in real time. Working closely with our China lead and with our commercial and Account Management teams in Latin America, you will own the full sales cycle, from prospecting to closing, and help grow volume with existing clients.
The ideal candidate is a hunter with solid experience selling cross-border payment solutions (pay-in and payout) to large enterprises, who understands the Chinese payments landscape and is excited about building a new market from the ground up. They are hungry, enthusiastic and goal-oriented, thrive in a fast-paced, early-stage environment, and can communicate clearly in English with clients and with our headquarters team. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the founding team of Cobre in China.
What would you be doing:
- Identify, prospect and close new large-enterprise clients in China, focusing on companies, e-commerce platforms and tech firms expanding into Latin America.
- Own the full sales cycle: pipeline generation, discovery, solution design, proposals, negotiation and closing.
- Understand clients’ cross-border payment needs (pay-in and payout to Latin America) and position Cobre’s solutions accordingly.
- Partner with the Account Management team at headquarters to grow volume with existing clients by identifying pain points, key decision makers and new business opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders in finance, treasury and payments teams.
- Develop relationships with channel partners and financial institutions that can bring new business to Cobre.
- Share market intelligence on the Chinese payments landscape, competitors and client needs with Cobre’s commercial and product teams.
- Represent Cobre at industry events and help build the company’s brand and credibility in the Chinese market.
- Maintain an accurate pipeline and forecast, and report on commercial targets to leadership.
- Help lay the foundations of Cobre’s China team as it grows.
What do you need:
- Experience: 5+ years in Business Development or Sales in the payments industry (cross-border payment providers, PSPs, fintechs or financial institutions).
- Payments Knowledge: Solid understanding of pay-in and payout products and cross-border payment flows, beyond merchant acquiring.
- Enterprise Sales: Proven track record of winning and managing large enterprise clients.
- Account Growth: Experience growing existing accounts and working closely with Account Management teams.
- Client Network: An established network of clients in China, especially companies expanding into Latin America, is a strong plus.
- Big Tech Exposure (plus): Experience in the payments function of large e-commerce or tech platforms.
- Languages: Native Mandarin and professional working English; you can explain ideas clearly and communicate efficiently with an international team.
- Mindset: Hungry, enthusiastic and goal-oriented, with an entrepreneurial attitude and comfort building something from scratch.
- Collaboration: Ability to work with remote teams across time zones and influence stakeholders across functions.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or a related field.
