About the job at Benevity

Are you a sharp communicator ready to shape how the world hears from a global brand? As our External Communications Manager, you'll be the AVP of Brand & Communications' right hand on everything Benevity says to press, clients and the market — assisting with media relations, crisis communications, and the executive voice that carries our point of view into the sector.

This role is ideal for someone who has deep experience with executives, knows how to get them on a stage worth standing on, can ghostwrite on their behalf, and is comfortable iterating their POV as the market shifts.

What you'll do

  • Media Relations: Assist in media pitching and build lasting relationships with the journalists and outlets that help Benevity reach new audiences.

  • PR Agency Management: Assist in the management of the PR agency alongside the Director of Brand & Communications, keeping the agency focused on the highest-value work and holding it accountable to Benevity's standards.

  • Executive Visibility: Lead the strategy for securing meaningful speaking opportunities for Benevity's executives, prioritizing platforms and stages that build the company's authority and visibility in the sector and with new audiences.

  • Executive POV Development: Develop Benevity's executives' points of view alongside the brand and editorial lead, ensuring every POV is distinctive, well-argued and grounded in the brand narrative and in Impact Labs data.

  • Executive Ghostwriting: Ghostwrite articles, speeches and presentations for Benevity's executive leaders, translating their points of view into polished, delivery-ready material in their own voice.

  • Thought-Leadership Alignment: Partner with the brand and editorial lead to ensure executive and thought-leadership content aligns with Impact Labs data and research, bringing an external, market-facing lens to how that content is planned and released.

  • Crisis Preparedness: Build and maintain a crisis communications playbook with clear escalation paths to the Director and executive leadership, so the team is ready before it's tested by a live situation. Assist the AVP, Brand & Communications on all external communications, ensuring a consistent, on-strategy voice with press and clients, and crisis communications, helping to develop messaging and response plans that protect Benevity's reputation with both media and clients.

What you'll bring (Experience)

  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in external communications, PR or corporate communications, with at least 3 years leading media relations or crisis communications for a B2B brand (SaaS experience a plus).

  • Media & Speaking Relationships: A track record of securing high-quality media placements and speaking opportunities, with relationships across the journalists, editors and event organizers who matter to the business.

  • Executive Communications: Demonstrated experience developing executive point-of-view content and ghostwriting speeches, articles or presentations that sound authentically like the leader delivering them.

  • Writing & Storytelling: Sharp, provocative writing and editorial judgment, with the ability to push messaging beyond safe and generic and toward genuinely distinctive points of view.

  • Collaborative & Adaptable: A collaborative mindset, with the flexibility to adapt quickly across press, client and executive audiences in a fast-paced environment without losing sight of message discipline.
