About the Role:

As an Emergency Communications Representative, you will work closely with field personnel, internal departments, emergency services, and external agencies. You will provide critical support during emergencies, operational events, and routine activities by using operational systems, communication tools, and sound judgement. This position requires professionalism under pressure, strong multitasking abilities, a commitment to safety, and customer‑focused service while representing ATCO and its values.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Receive, analyze, and prioritize emergency requests through multiple channels using appropriate work procedures and deploy appropriate resources in a timely and accurate fashion.

  • Appropriately review, assign, and/or complete requests received from other internal departments.

  • Provide callers with appropriate pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions.

  • Respond to the Work Alone Program monitoring notifications in a timely fashion.

  • Efficiently and effectively direct the deployment of resources.

  • Provide accurate and timely communications, liaison services, operational support, and interdepartmental coordination.

  • Provide accurate and timely communication to emergency services and other utilities.

  • Accurately record and transmit information as it is received through a multitude of channels (e.g. phone, email, radio, etc.)

  • Support the coordination of operations work and provide ongoing monitoring and utilization of company personnel.

  • Create and/or assign work orders. Ensure that work orders contain all relevant and required information before being assigned to employees.

  • Utilize mapping software to identify the location of emergencies.

  • Engage the Supervisor or Senior official on call as required.

  • Provide on-the-job training as required.

  • Communicate professionally with the public regardless of their reason for calling and help every caller free of judgment, stereotype, and discrimination.

  • Represent ATCO in a professional and respectful manner.

  • Perform other duties as required.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent is required.

  • Emergency Response Communication Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution OR a minimum of 2 years’ experience in emergency communications.

  • Strong computer skills; using multiple monitors and systems simultaneously is required. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Knowledge of the workgroup’s current computer systems such as but not limited to Maximo, OFS, and mapping software (ARC FM) would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of Service Operations and Field Distribution Operations would be an asset.

  • Ability to read and interpret maps and coordinates.

  • Ability to provide timely, accurate, professional, customer-orientated teamwork services while multi-tasking in a high-volume work environment.

  • Ability to maintain focus, stay attentive to detail, remain calm, and make critical decisions under pressure.

  • Ability to adapt to changes, including technology, programs, and work procedures.

  • Must have strong record keeping and documentation skills, and be able to work under minimal supervision.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with a strong focus on clarity, professionalism, and customer service.

  • Time management and organizational skills with an ability to coordinate and prioritize workload and meet deadlines, including dealing effectively with a heavy workload.

  • Ability to perform shift work on a 24/7 rotating schedule, up to 12 hours per shift.

  • May be called out to assist in emergencies on a 24-hour basis.

  • This position is a Safety-Sensitive position and has additional pre-employment requirements.
