What you'll do

What you bring
- A degree in communications, development communication, media, journalism, arts, or a closely related subject
- At least three years of relevant experience, including advanced photo, video, editorial, design, and media-relations skills
- Working ability with Mac and PC systems plus Adobe and Apple editing software for video, photography, media, and design
- Demonstrated training and capacity-building experience, with fluency in English and Tok Pisin
- Experience with women’s empowerment and the ability to develop people in cross-cultural settings

The Communications Coordinator leads strategic communications and public engagement for the Sustainable Highlands Region Core Road Network Project. Based in Western Highlands, the role documents and promotes the project’s progress and impact through compelling stories, photographs, videos, case studies, and other communication products while ensuring compliance with donor branding requirements. It also strengthens stakeholder awareness and trust by supporting media engagement, public events, community campaigns, staff capacity-building, and emergency communications.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Context-driven content and creative planning that supports the Project is developed and coordinated/implemented.
- Support Project team in delivering the project tasks required by ToR through the leading of: goal setting, prioritization, process management, relationship management related to communications.
- Provide orientation and capacity building related to Content and Creative to Project staff to ensure relevant contents can be spotted and referred for further communication actions
- Provide support to Project team in development of external engagement materials, including project briefs and progress brief
- Donor branding and other communications compliance requirements are met by all relevant staff and are reflected in all communications/external materials.
- In coordination with Project team, develop knowledge products that capture and reflects impacts and progress
- Regular field visits to target communities to capture progress and impact stories
- Capture photos and stories for each Project outputs.
- In collaboration with technical expert, develop knowledge products that has been requested by donors, including case studies, videos, presentations, etc.
- Support and advise Project team in participation of relevant public events in Highland Region
- Work with Project team to develop Comms & Public Engagement plan for the Project
- Ensure coordination with Communications team in National Office to maximize support and guidance for compelling content being delivered by efficient workflows, assuring wise stewardship
- Lead and advise if any ceremony, launch, opening or closing events linked to Project.
- Provide content to NO Comms team for posting in newspaper, WVPNG social media accounts
- Support IEC material and resource development linked to project campaign and/or community awareness raising
- Support preparation of presentation materials during reflection and M&E events.
- Support emergency communication and content generation in case of natural disasters and conflicts in project sites
- Support story and photo collection in case of emergency response
KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Communications, Development Communication, Media, Journalism, Arts or similar.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
- Advanced communications technical skills such as photo and video production, editorial, graphic design, and media relations.
- Proven experience of training and capacity building of others.
- Advanced level of computer proficiency, Mac and PC, including editing skills across Adobe and Apple software for video, photo, media, design.
- Experience in working with women empowerment
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Thorough knowledge of the communication and media industry
- Thorough knowledge of international development, World Vision development practice and communications needs
- Prior experience working or living in Highlands region preferred.
- Proven ability to develop people in a cross-cultural setting.
- Fluency in English and Tok Pisin.
- Willingness to travel to very remote communities.
