The Communications Manager will work under the management of the Deputy Director of the Economic Development Department. The Communications Manager will have a cross-departmental insight into our four component divisions and will look for opportunities to tell positive stories based on the work emerging from each division. The Communications Manager will identify stories for both internal and external audiences and generally ensure the proper branding and representation of the Economic Development Department.
REQUIRED TASKS·
Working with the full resources of the Economic Development Department, The Communications Manager shall:
- Analyze recent federal grant distributions to local municipalities and organizations, identifying potential stories to pitch.
- Regularly pitch Economic Development stories to local and national niche media, aiming for a high volume of stories along with pre-identified key outlets.
- Create a social media strategy for Economic Development departmental activities and coordinate implementation of that strategy with the Communications Department.
- Coordinate press conferences, conference appearances, and other media opportunities for the Department.
- Facilitate internal County communications regarding Economic Development activities and achievements.
- Hold responsibility for all Economic Development Department branding needs, including template design, presentation support, merchandise and collateral orders, etc.
- Update Monthly or Bimonthly electronic newsletter with information on upcoming events, Wayne County businesses in the news, helpful tools, and news from our resource partners.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism or related field.
