Job Summary:

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is a top-ranked leader in research, teaching, service, and outreach. The department is home to five academic programs including an undergraduate major, a capstone certificate program, a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program, an Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program, and a Ph.D. program.


The department also houses the UW Speech and Hearing Clinic where graduate student clinicians provide services to patients under the guidance and supervision of state-licensed and nationally certified speech-language pathologists and audiologists. The clinic offers evaluation, treatment, and consultation services for children and adults with speech, language, hearing, and related communication needs. We are seeking a passionate, dynamic, and creative Communications Specialist to join our team.


The Communication Specialist develops and implements strategic communication initiatives that support the mission, visibility, and engagement goals of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the UW Speech and Hearing Clinic. This position is responsible for creating and managing content across digital and print platforms, including social media, websites, newsletters, and promotional materials. The Communication Specialist works closely with departmental leadership, alumni, donors, and campus partners to tell impactful stories, support advancement and fundraising efforts, and promote outreach initiatives that increase community awareness and connections. The position also provides planning, communications, and logistical support for departmental and clinic events, including outreach activities, student and alumni events, and other special programs. In addition, the Communication Specialists serves as a key point of contact for routine communications inquiries and helps coordinate communications activities through an annual communications plan and content calendar.


This position is part-time, 50%

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
  • Provide planning, communications, and logistical support for departmental and clinic events, including community outreach events, student and alumni activities, and other special programs.
  • Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects

Collaborate with departmental leadership and the UW Foundation to develop and implement communication strategies that support advancement priorities, fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, and alumni engagement initiatives.

  • Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans

Compensation:

The expected salary range for this position is $49,550 - $70,857 for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay within this range will depend on experience, qualifications, and FTE.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, and ability to balance multiple projects at one time.
  • Demonstrated skill in written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as function effectively in a team environment, including strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with website content management systems (e.g. WordPress).
  • Proficiency with social media tools and communications strategy.
  • Experience in communications, marketing, and web design.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing, applying, or enforcing digital accessibility standards.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree with a focus in Communications or Marketing, preferred
