The position is based in Knoxville and offers a hybrid schedule with one or two remote workdays each week. From the employer
The purpose of this position is to assist the Business Manager with marketing/communications, events, and office operations in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport Studies. The department serves over 2000 undergraduate and 178 graduate students, and is comprised of 38 full-time faculty, 14 staff, and over 70 part-time faculty and graduate associates. The department also includes the Physical Education Activity Program, which serves over 5,000 students across campus each year.
Marketing/Communications
• Liaison to other Communication Units (Office of Communications, CEHHS Marketing Team, etc.)
• Maintains general updates to the KRSS website
• Manages all KRSS Social Media Accounts
• Develops marketing & communications materials for both internal and external audiences, including newsletters, press releases, banners, posters, flyers, handouts, digital marketing, social media posting, internal digital signage, and internal marketing (listservs to department, college, university as appropriate for undergraduate and graduate programs and courses, special event materials, research and community engagement initiatives)
• Ensures all communications and marketing materials meet University branding and accessibility guidelines; serves as branding resource • Orders promotional items.
Events - Serve as lead in planning, coordinating, and attending events, meetings, or other activities. Including but not limited to the following tasks:
• space scheduling for meetings and events
• meeting with business manager to review event budget
• coordinating event committees • developing marketing materials for events
• coordinating catering
• facilities related requests
• scheduling special guests
• manage all event set-up, tear down, and follow-up processes.
Operational Administration:
• Primary contact for ordering general office supplies, furniture, etc.
• Ensures appropriate documentation is provided for all purchases, orders, and internal transfers initiated by this position
• Serve as back up to other business office staff
• Other duties as assigned by the Business Manager
Required Qualifications
Education: High School diploma
Experience: At least two years of experience in a role requiring communications, marketing, and/or event planning skills.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Ability to develop and align messages for relevant audiences
Knowledge of and ability to utilize social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
Ability to design and/or maintain websites
Knowledge of and ability to utilize relevant software: Canva, WordPress, and Adobe products such as Photoshop, etc.
Ability to plan events, organize, problem solve, prioritize, and balance workload on concurrent projects
Ability to think and work independently without close supervision
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, general public, faculty, and students
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's in communications, marketing, or related field preferred.
Experience: Experience working in a university/academic setting with communications, marketing, or event planning responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: skilled in photography and/or videography. Knowledgeable in graphic design.
