From the employer
Area Sales Manager
Salary: £55,000 + Tiered Commission | Company Car | Laptop & Phone
Are you a commercially driven sales professional who thrives on building strong customer relationships, winning new business and growing existing accounts?
Do you believe that speed, responsiveness and genuine customer partnership are the difference between simply managing accounts and becoming the person customers choose to do business with?
If so, this could be the opportunity for you.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an ambitious North Area Account Manager to take ownership of an established customer base across the North, with a clear objective: retain, grow and win.
You’ll be responsible for protecting existing revenue, increasing product penetration, identifying new opportunities and developing long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
This is a genuine relationship-led sales role. You’ll spend approximately two days a week face-to-face with customers, supported by internal teams who will help manage administration, order processing and technical requirements. This means you can spend more of your time doing what you do best — talking to customers, solving problems and winning business.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own and grow a portfolio of customer accounts, taking full responsibility for sales and gross profit performance.
- Build strong relationships with customers through regular telephone and face-to-face contact.
- Visit key, high-value customers regularly while ensuring every customer receives meaningful contact at least once every three months.
- Identify customers whose spend has declined and proactively win that business back.
- Become the trusted, dedicated point of contact for all stakeholders within your accounts.
- Identify gaps in product spend and develop opportunities to increase customer share of wallet.
- Introduce and promote new products and ranges.
- Provide customers with best-practice advice and develop bespoke solutions for one-off projects.
- Respond to enquiries with urgency, accuracy and a solution-focused approach.
- Use CRM rigorously to manage opportunities, follow-ups and the sales pipeline.
- Maintain excellent product knowledge so you can confidently advise customers and identify opportunities.
- Work closely with internal technical specialists and bring them into customer meetings where their expertise can help win business.
- Keep CRM fully up to date at the end of every working day.
This Role Is About More Than Account Management
We’re looking for someone who doesn't simply wait for customers to place orders.
You’ll be expected to spot the opportunity before the customer does.
Whether that means identifying an untapped product category, recovering lost spend, bringing a technical specialist into a meeting or finding a solution to a customer's problem, you'll have the autonomy and responsibility to make things happen.
The philosophy is simple:
Be fast. Be proactive. Be useful. Build trust. Win the business.
Requirements
You'll be a natural relationship builder with a strong commercial instinct. You don't need to be a stereotypical salesperson — we're much more interested in how you think, communicate and deliver.
You'll ideally bring:
- A proven track record in B2B sales or account management.
- A strong customer-first mentality.
- Commercial awareness and a genuine desire to grow revenue.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A highly responsive, proactive and solution-oriented approach.
- The confidence to engage with customers at different levels of an organisation.
- Strong organisation and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple opportunities and follow-ups without letting anything slip.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Flexibility and a willingness to go the extra mile.
- Honesty, integrity and the ability to build relationships based on trust.
- The drive and resilience to be accountable for your own results.
