What is the role?
Southampton Football Club is seeking an exceptional Head of Content & Production to lead the club's content operation through an exciting period of growth and innovation.
This is a key leadership role within the commercial department, responsible for shaping how Southampton Football Club is represented across digital platforms. You will lead a talented multi-disciplinary team and develop a content strategy that engages supporters, strengthens our brand, supports commercial objectives and positions the club as a leader in digital storytelling.
Working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer and senior stakeholders across the club, you will play a pivotal role in driving our content vision and ensuring Southampton FC remains at the forefront of creativity, innovation and audience engagement.
What will you be doing?
As Head of Content & Production, you will lead the development and delivery of Southampton Football Club’s content and channel strategies, ensuring they support both football and commercial objectives. You will oversee the club’s Social, Editorial, Production Studio, Original Video and Photography teams, driving the creation of engaging, high-quality content that strengthens the club’s brand and reputation.
Working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer and senior stakeholders, you will provide strategic leadership across all digital content activity, establish clear performance measures and reporting frameworks, and ensure content plans are aligned to the club’s short and long-term priorities.
You will build strong relationships across football and commercial departments to maximise content opportunities, drive collaboration and support wider business goals. The role also includes managing departmental budgets and resources, maintaining oversight of the club’s reputation across digital channels, and identifying opportunities to innovate and continuously improve the club’s content output.
As a senior leader, you will develop and support a high-performing team culture, ensuring colleagues are empowered, engaged and equipped to deliver best-in-class content across all platforms.
Is this you?
You are an experienced content leader with a proven track record of developing successful digital strategies and leading high-performing creative teams. You possess a deep understanding of social media, content production, audience engagement and digital innovation, with the ability to balance strategic planning and operational delivery.
Essential Skills and Experience
Significant experience of content production and managing content, editorial & production teams, ideally within a sports-based organisation.
Experience of developing and implementing content & channel strategies, ideally across both sports and commercial-based channels.
Deep understanding of social media platforms and content production for them.
Experience delivering editorial and content plans to grow app utilisation.
Able to demonstrate how owned digital platforms and content have been used to drive attributable revenue.
Clear evidence of delivering creative, innovative and successful content ideas and campaigns.
Understand the importance of a creative idea and bring long-term creative platforms to life across social & editorial platforms.
Experience of driving fan engagement both domestically & internationally.
An experienced and empathetic people manager and strong, professional communicator.
Very strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex workstreams and deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines.
