EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field. Four years of progressively responsible experience in core transportation operations, two of which were in a supervisory capacity. Must be knowledgeable of the operations of Communications Center consoles including bus control. Must have knowledge of the Authority's bus operation procedures, rolling stock equipment, work equipment, emergency and safety procedures, and service equipment. Must have demonstrated ability to perform well given tight deadlines, extreme pressure and adverse conditions. Knowledge of Labor Agreement and experience dealing with union representatives required. Directly related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of a degree.
INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.
SUMMARY
Serves as the replacement for the General Superintendent when required. Responsible for monitoring schedules of buses using computer systems, including monitoring and control of bus schedules, the coordination of emergency procedures, and the training and scheduling of Bus Communications Dispatchers. On call twenty-four (24) hours per day, he/she will be required to respond and assume command during emergencies or major incidents. Has the authority to affect and interpret management policies or operating practices. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assigns work to and supervises division dispatchers and transportation supervisors. Ensures day-to-day activities in support of unit work goals are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner within established policies and procedures.
2. Coaches personnel on proper performance of work, frequently providing direct technical assistance.
3. Plans, monitors, evaluates and develops employee performance to maximize employee potential and maintain a high-performance environment.
4. Reports hazardous street conditions, equipment malfunctions, and/or recurring problems to the appropriate authority or outside agency. Ensures that appropriate action is taken.
5. Procures all materials necessary for radio communication operations.
6. Has frequent contact with General Superintendent, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to ensure optimum working relationships with radio communications.
7. Has the authority to affect and interpret management policies or operating practices.
8. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
