Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President, Enterprise Communications, the Associate Director, Enterprise Communications plays a key role in developing and delivering communication strategies and materials that support HOOPP's business priorities, investment activities, executive leadership and organizational reputation, with a strong emphasis on external audiences.
The successful candidate will work across a broad range of strategic initiatives, partnering with senior leaders and subject matter experts to develop clear, compelling communications for both internal and external audiences, with particular focus on external stakeholders, industry partners, investment community contacts, and other groups relevant to HOOPP's investment and executive profile. This includes executive presentations, external speaking remarks, thought leadership, briefing materials, stakeholder communications, award submissions, and other high-impact content that communicates complex business and investment topics.
The role requires a strong writer, strategic thinker and trusted advisor who can quickly grasp complex subject matter, provide sound communications counsel, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be highly collaborative, comfortable working with senior leaders and C-suite executives, and able to balance multiple priorities while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
What you will do:
Develop and execute strategic communications that support HOOPP's business priorities, investment activities, and broader organizational objectives, with a focus on external positioning.
Lead and support investment communications strategy.
Partner closely with Investment Management, Strategy and other subject matter experts to develop accurate, compelling messaging on complex investment topics.
Translate complex business, investment and market topics into clear, compelling communications for a variety of internal and external audiences.
Develop presentations, speeches, speaking notes, briefing materials, thought leadership content, award submissions and stakeholder communications.
Serve as the lead communications partner to the CEO on speeches, presentations and key messaging.
Provide strategic communications counsel and messaging support to senior leaders and executives, with particular emphasis on preparing them for external speaking opportunities, including conferences, industry events, panels, and other high-profile external engagements, to maximize the impact and alignment of key messaging.
Lead the development of key messages, statements, Q&As and speaking remarks to ensure HOOPP spokespeople are well-prepared for external stakeholder and industry events.
Provide high-level briefings on HOOPP investment initiatives, such as Annual Reports, Fund performance, program launches, and strategies, for external audiences.
Support executive communications initiatives and major organizational announcements, events and engagements.
Build strong relationships across the organization, and with relevant external stakeholders to identify storytelling opportunities and communications needs.
Develop high-quality content across a range of formats, including presentations, reports, executive materials, articles, digital content and other communications materials.
Recommend and help implement cross-channel approaches to communications based on organizational priorities, emerging opportunities and audience insights.
Ensure communications products consistently meet the highest standards of quality control and effectiveness.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of communications processes, tools and standards across the organization.
What you bring:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, Finance, Economics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
8-10 years of progressive communications experience, with strong exposure to investment communications, capital markets, asset management, banking, pension plans or other financial services environments.
Exceptional written and oral communication, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt messages effectively for diverse audiences, stakeholders and channels, particularly external audiences.
Demonstrated experience developing executive presentations, board materials, conference presentations and strategic communications for senior leaders.
Experience advising senior leaders and C-suite executives on external speaking opportunities and managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
Strong business acumen and the ability to understand and communicate complex financial and investment concepts.
Experience operating effectively within a complex, highly regulated or stakeholder-rich environment.
Skilled writer and editor, with significant experience writing, proofing and editing material, and presenting proposals and plans to senior leaders and Board members.
Deep understanding of the value of corporate communications and the role of multichannel storytelling in reaching external audiences.
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to assess communications needs relevant to the CEO, Executive Team and Board.
Excellent judgment, discretion, attention to detail and project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally.
High professionalism and sound stakeholder judgment, with the ability to build trust, influence outcomes and respectfully challenge perspectives when appropriate.
Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and deliver high-quality work with minimal direction.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of artificial intelligence tools to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and impact of both day-to-day and strategic communications, including the ability to leverage AI to develop content, generate insights, analyze stakeholder sentiment, optimize communications channels, and support enterprise-wide communication strategies.
A CFA, CIM, CAIA, MBA or accounting designation, held or in progress, would be considered an asset.
The expected annual base salary range for this role is: $103,000 - $153,000 CAD
The actual base salary offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.
This role is eligible to participate in discretionary incentive plan(s), subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan text.
