Who this fits
This junior communications role is a two-year appointment, with possible renewal depending on departmental funding and need. It is full time, Monday through Friday, at thirty-five hours per week, with a hybrid schedule set by the department. You must be able to work from a Harvard-registered state when off-site; Harvard cannot sponsor a visa for this position.

The Communications Associate will support outreach around the work of the Center for Labor and a Just Economy’s sponsored programs, as well as core administrative needs of the Center. The Associate will play an integral role in advancing the Center’s programming objectives, which include shaping narratives around progressive labor issues and amplifying research, strategy, and policy recommendations for worker empowerment.
As a Communications Associate, you will:
- Support in developing, executing, and refining the Center for Labor and a Just Economy’s communications strategy.
- Track media engagement and identify opportunities to expand the Center’s outreach.
- Provide support for public-facing events and presentations.
- Draft content for and manage the Center’s social media platforms.
- Produce and disseminate regular email newsletters.
- Support the design, development, and release of publications and reports.
- Assist in managing key media partnerships and work collaboratively with Harvard Law School central comms and external partners as opportunities arise.
- Track and report qualitative content performance data and leverage analytics to make recommendations on driving content strategy decisions.
- Maintain the Center’s contact database.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Five or more years of related experience in communications, publishing, or related field. Education may count toward experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for people who have:
- Excellent judgment, attention to detail, organizational skills, oral and written communication abilities.
- Experience using online collaboration tools such as Google Drive, Microsoft suite, Asana, Zoom.
- Experience with creating content for and managing mailing list (e.g., Mailchimp) and social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, Threads).
- Familiarity and experience with web development platforms (e.g., WordPress).
- Experience and/or commitment to ensuring events and public-facing materials are accessible to all audiences, including those with disabilities.
- Experience and/or interest in communicating around labor-related issues and policy.
- Experience and/or interest in using and leveraging data analytics (e.g., Google Analytics).
- Experience using graphic design/illustration software (e.g., Canva, Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign) a plus.
Appointment End Date: This is a two-year term appointment with potential for renewal, subject to departmental funding and need.
Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week; Full-time, M-F.

Work Format Details
This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
Salary Grade and Ranges
