From the employer
About the Role
We’re looking for a strong communications contractor to support OpenAI’s vertical communications work across health, education, and personal finance. These are deeply personal, high-impact areas where trust, clarity, and responsible storytelling are especially important. This person will help communicate how OpenAI’s models and ChatGPT capabilities can be useful to people in real-world moments, while helping ensure our narratives are credible, thoughtful, and aligned with OpenAI’s mission.
This role is ideal for someone who can move quickly from strategy to execution, bring strong editorial judgment, and partner well across product, policy, legal, marketing, research, and communications teams.
In this role, you will:
Support launch execution for priority vertical moments, from messaging development and launch planning to media strategy, stakeholder coordination, and post-launch follow-through.
Own ongoing proactive campaigns across verticals, partnering cross-functionally to identify strong storylines, build campaign calendars, and move work from idea to execution.
Translate complex technical product work and broader OpenAI progress into clear, audience-specific narratives tailored to health, education, personal finance, and other priority audiences.
Draft and refine high-quality communications materials, including messaging, pitches, briefing docs, talking points, FAQs, launch plans, media strategies, and executive-ready summaries.
Keep a strong pulse on external sentiment, media narratives, and emerging risks, helping manage brand considerations while unblocking dependencies and keeping campaigns moving.
Build trusted relationships with cross-functional partners and help create clarity across fast-moving, sometimes ambiguous workstreams.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Are a strong writer and editor who can make complex or technical topics feel clear, grounded, and human.
Have sound judgment around sensitive, trust-heavy topics and know how to balance opportunity, risk, and nuance.
Are highly organized and comfortable managing multiple launches, campaigns, stakeholders, deadlines, and approvals at once.
Can operate independently, move quickly, and bring structure to ambiguous work without needing heavy oversight.
