Role brief

Growth Roles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Set pipeline strategy across Paid Search, Paid Media, Organic Search, and AI-search visibility
  • Guide LinkedIn, Demandbase display, and YouTube investments across the growth portfolio
  • Shape web priorities so content is easier for people and language models to find and cite
  • Work with PR, AR, Social, and Web teams to influence buyer and AI perceptions
  • Coach channel leaders, support bold experiments, and build the team’s future leadership bench

What you bring

  • Bring at least fifteen years in growth or performance marketing, including at least five years leading managers
  • Show ownership of an annual, multi-channel growth budget above twenty million dollars, including Paid Search, Paid Social, and SEO/AEO
  • Connect marketing activity to pipeline, revenue, CAC, pipeline-per-dollar, or blended CPA through strong attribution and testing
  • Create attention-focused content yourself, such as social-native video, founder-led work, or influencer-style formats
  • Coach people with an empowering style and test emerging channels or markets before they become crowded

Who this fits

You’ll suit a senior growth leader who can connect organic, paid, web, and AI-search work to pipeline and revenue. This is a team leadership role with responsibility for coaching managers, developing future leaders, and setting direction rather than managing channel tactics personally. The role is listed in Austin, and you’ll partner with Web, PR, AR, Social, Design, and Brand teams without directly owning all of them. B2B SaaS and complex sales-cycle experience are advantages, not stated requirements

At Gong, you will join a company built on innovative products, ambitious goals, and passionate people. We are shaping the future of revenue intelligence and we want people who are excited to build what comes next. You will work with a team that dreams big, moves fast, and cares deeply about the craft and about each other. Here, transparency and trust are core to how we operate, and every person has the opportunity to make a visible impact. If you want to grow, stretch, and do work that truly matters, Gong is the place to do the best work of your career.

Gong is looking for a Senior Director of Growth Marketing to lead our Organic, Paid Media, and Paid Search functions. This is a pipeline generation role first: you'll own the strategy and results across our paid and owned channels, and you'll be measured on the pipeline and revenue those channels produce.

What's changed is how that pipeline gets built. Buyers increasingly discover and shortlist vendors through content, AI-driven search, and channels well outside a traditional demand generation funnel, so we want a leader who treats earning attention there as a direct driver of pipeline, not a separate initiative running alongside it. That means bringing a creator's instincts to this work alongside the instincts of a traditional growth leader: a real point of view on what earns attention today, hands-on experience building it, and enough range across organic, paid, and web channels to know where to place the bet.

This is fundamentally a leadership role, not an individual-contributor one. But we've found that leaders who've done the work themselves are better at coaching a team to do it well.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Paid Search — our largest growth investment, and the channel with the most existing operational maturity
  • Paid Media — LinkedIn, Display (via Demandbase), and YouTube, roughly equal in weight to each other and collectively comparable in size to Paid Search
  • Organic & AI Search — SEO, plus AEO/GEO (answer- and generative-engine optimization): owning our visibility, citation rate, and share of voice inside AI answers (ChatGPT, Anthropic, Google AI Overviews/AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini) as buyers increasingly research and shortlist vendors there before they ever reach our site
  • Earned channel influence — Reddit, YouTube, Wikipedia, analyst platforms like Gartner, and other sources that shape how AI engines and buyers perceive Gong; you won't own execution here, but you'll partner closely with the teams who do (PR, AR, Social) to make sure our presence there is deliberate
  • Website partnership — you'll shape strategy and priorities for web initiatives in close partnership with the Web team, though they won't report into you. In the AI era, that includes making sure the site is machine-readable and extractable (clean structure, schema, answer-shaped content) so LLMs can retrieve and cite it — not just optimizing for human UX
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 15+ years in growth or performance marketing, including 5+ years managing managers (not just individual contributors) with real ownership of Paid Search, Paid Social, and SEO/AEO
  • Experience owning a growth budget with a scale of more than $20M annually across multiple channels
  • A track record of tying growth activity to commercial outcomes; owning pipeline and revenue contribution, and efficiency metrics like CAC, pipeline-per-dollar, or blended CPA, across paid and owned channels
  • A track record of managing budgets in the range this role will own, with clear evidence of efficiency AND experimentation (not just one or the other)
  • Strong measurement instincts with comfortability building attribution and testing frameworks that prove what's working, including in channels that are inherently harder to measure precisely
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with Web/Design/Brand/PR/AR teams without owning them directly
  • A bias toward testing new channels early, with a point of view on where audiences are moving next
  • Experience using digital channels to break into new industries or geographies
  • People leadership experience with a demonstrated coaching style that empowers rather than controls
  • B2B SaaS experience preferred; comfort with complex, considered sales cycles a plus
  • Direct, hands-on experience creating content meant to capture attention — social-native video, founder-led content, influencer-style formats — not just briefing others to make it
  • Nice to have: A personal or professional portfolio of content you've created and grown an audience with (a newsletter, a YouTube channel, a LinkedIn following, TikToks, etc.)
HOW YOU WILL LEAD
  • Treat your team as owners, not direct reports. Set the bar, give context, and get out of the way. No micromanagement of channel tactics.
  • Push for exponential, not incremental. Anyone can optimize a CPC by 8%. We want a leader who asks "what would 10x this channel?" and is willing to test the answer.
  • Create room for risk. Your team should feel safe running the experiment that might fail, because you've made it clear that swinging and missing is part of the job — not swinging is the problem.
  • Bring a creator's eye to the whole portfolio. Push each channel owner to think like a creative, not just a media buyer — including in channels like Paid Search, where that mindset is less common but just as valuable.
  • Model the behavior you want from the team. Be willing to write, shoot, or edit something yourself to test a new format before asking the team to scale it.
  • Build the bench, not just the output. Actively develop future leaders on the team, raise the hiring bar with every open req, and address performance gaps directly rather than working around them.
PERKS & BENEFITS
  • We offer Gongsters a variety of medical, dental, and vision plans, designed to fit you and your family’s needs.
  • Wellbeing Fund - flexible wellness stipend to support a healthy lifestyle.
  • Mental Health benefits with covered therapy and coaching.
  • 401(k) program to help you invest in your future.
  • Education & learning stipend for personal growth and development.
  • Flexible vacation time to promote a healthy work-life blend.
  • Paid parental leave to support you and your family.
  • Company-wide recharge days each quarter.
  • Work from home stipend to help you succeed in a remote environment.
