The U.S. Consumer Marketing team (USCM) is part of U.S. Consumer Services and is responsible for making membership essential by creating and delivering outstanding marketing for our differentiated products and services that drives demand and inspires engaged Card Members across the customer lifecycle.
The Director, Affiliate Marketing is responsible for leading the strategy and performance of Affiliate Marketing, a critical acquisition and growth channel across the U.S. Consumer portfolio. The role will define how American Express evolves its Affiliate strategy as consumer discovery rapidly changes across AI, LLMs, content ecosystems and recommendation-based experiences, while continuing to drive strong performance from our established partner portfolio.
This highly visible role will own Affiliate business performance and investment strategy, lead our most strategic external partnerships and negotiations, identify new growth opportunities and partnership models, and lead a high-performing Affiliate Marketing team.
- Define and evolve USCM’s Affiliate strategy, investment approach, and operating model to support growth priorities across Consumer products and services.
- Own Affiliate business performance, driving efficient customer acquisition through investment management, optimization, testing, measurement, and forecasting.
- Lead strategic partner relationships, negotiations, and joint business planning across publishers, networks, agencies, and emerging content ecosystems.
- Shape the future of Affiliate and AI-driven discovery, identifying new partnership models and growth opportunities as consumer behavior shifts toward LLMs, content, and recommendation-based experiences.
- Drive senior-level alignment across Marketing, Product, Analytics, Finance, Legal, Compliance, and other enterprise stakeholders to advance strategic priorities and solve complex business challenges.
- Translate performance data, market trends, and partner innovation into actionable investment decisions, growth strategies, and executive recommendations.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and excellence.
- 10+ years of experience in performance marketing, digital marketing, strategic partnerships, or related disciplines, with a proven track record of driving business growth.
- Demonstrated success leading high-performing teams, strategic partners, and cross-functional stakeholders in a highly matrixed organization.
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills, with experience managing senior external relationships and complex partnerships.
- Deep performance marketing and financial acumen, with the ability to own investment decisions, forecasts, optimization, and business outcomes.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and executive communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data and market dynamics into clear recommendations and influence senior stakeholders.
- Experience navigating emerging technology and changing consumer behavior, including AI/LLM-driven discovery; experience within a highly regulated industry preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
