Who this fits
This suits a senior video leader who can move between hands-on editing, production orchestration, and presenting a slate to founders. You’ll work in New York in a hybrid, full-time role and build systems while shipping work yourself. B2B software, market research, or insights experience, along with motion design or AI-assisted production skills, would help but is not required.
From the employer
About Conveo
Conveo is building AI powered consumer understanding infrastructure: the layer that lets the world's best consumer brands stay continuously connected to their consumers through AI-led video conversations. We work with some of the largest CPG, tech, and research organizations in the world, and we are scaling fast off the back of a strong Series A trajectory.
Why this role shapes the whole company
Our story is visual by nature. Real consumers, on camera, saying things that change decisions inside the world's biggest brands. The company that tells that story best on video wins the category.
Think of what Y Combinator built with its content: a channel people watch on purpose, that compounds trust and defines how a generation thinks about startups. That is the ambition here, applied to consumer understanding. This role exists to build Conveo into a media brand, with video as the spine.
This is a builder's seat. You own the entire content engine end to end: what we film, why we film it, and the quality bar it ships at. You lay the dirt roads others can run over: repeatable formats, production pipelines, and standards that let content scale without you touching every frame forever.
Expect the first stretch to be very hands-on. You will have budget to hire editors, freelancers, and crews, and you can edit at a high level yourself. In the early months, you often will.
Above all, this is a storytelling job at two altitudes. Every individual piece has to be exceptionally told on its own terms. And the formats, arcs, and throughlines across everything we ship have to add up to one coherent story that is unmistakably on brand.
Your Mission
1. Set the slate and direct the hero films
You decide what deserves the full treatment, then make it land on screen.
Build and own the narrative slate: flagship films around customer stories and landmark studies, the proof pieces that carry our category story
Own the video spine of every hero campaign: campaign owners bring the objective, you take it from concept through hero film through every cutdown
Find the angle, shape the narrative, run the production, and own the final cut
2. Build formats that repeat
A format that repeats beats a one-off that impresses.
Shape the podcast as a format: guest thesis, filmed or audio, episode arcs, and the clip strategy that gives every episode ten lives across channels
Turn our 40+ events a year into a content engine: decide which ones get a crew, what we capture, and turn each event into a clip library instead of a memory
Invent, test, and retire formats deliberately, judged by what they prove about the brand and whether they can repeat
3. Run the machine that makes every asset compound
Every shoot should keep paying out long after the camera is packed.
Own the clipping and repurposing pipeline: cutdowns, social clips, and channel-native edits, with channel owners handling placement and spend
Build and run the production bench: freelancers, editors, motion designers, crews, and our external design agency
Systematize the craft: briefs, shot lists, edit templates, and pipelines that make the tenth shoot cheaper and better than the first
4. Steward the brand on every screen
You are a director in the broadest sense: you understand the script, and the meta script of what the company needs to say through the sum of all its films.
Anything carrying the Conveo brand on screen meets your standard: define what great looks like, document it, and enforce it kindly and relentlessly
Direct our founders and experts on camera: shape what they say, how it looks, and where it fits the bigger narrative
Work hand in hand with thought leadership to showcase research expertise through hero videos around customer cases and impactful studies
What We're Looking For
Must-haves
You have owned or run a video studio, production company, or in-house video function, with the scars and systems to show for it
You have directed and produced: you can brief a DOP, run a shoot day, manage an edit, and hit a budget
An excellent editor in your own right: the role starts very hands-on, and your own cuts set the bar the bench has to match
A sharp story editor at any length: a 90 minute podcast, a 3 minute hero film, a 30 second clip
An exceptional storyteller at both altitudes: each piece lands on its own, and the formats and throughlines across pieces build one coherent, on-brand narrative
An orchestrator: comfortable building and running a bench of freelancers, editors, motion designers, and crews
Hands-on in a scale-up: you ship first, then systematize
Mindset
Hungry to build a company into a media brand, and a student of the ones who did it
Thinks in formats and slates, and judges ideas by what they prove about the brand and whether they can repeat
High agency, low ego: happy to hold the camera on Tuesday and present the slate to founders on Wednesday
Taste with a spine: you defend the quality bar even when the deadline argues
Nice to have
B2B software, market research, or insights industry exposure
Motion design or animation literacy
AI-assisted production workflows in practice: editing, repurposing, and versioning at scale
What Success Looks Like
After 6 to 12 months:
Conveo has a recognizable video presence people watch on purpose, with formats that ship on a rhythm
Every hero campaign has a film at its center, and every event comes home as a clip library
The podcast runs as a real format with a thesis, a guest slate, and a clip machine behind it
A production bench executes against a documented quality bar without you touching every frame
Output per shoot has multiplied, and the brand looks and sounds unmistakably Conveo on every screen
