We are seeking an experienced Corporate/Commercial Banking Director to lead our Digital, Technology & Communications Sector Coverage team. This is a front-office, client-facing commercial leadership role responsible for managing relationships with high-growth and mid-to-large corporate tech clients, driving origination, and delivering Corporate & Investment Banking solutions (Credit, Liquidity, FX, Trade, Capital Markets, M&A

Within Citi Commercial Bank (CCB), our DT&C vertical partners with innovative, high-growth, and established companies across Software (SaaS/Enterprise), FinTech & Payment Intermediaries, Telecommunications, Media, Digital Infrastructure, and the broader Venture Capital / Private Equity-backed innovation ecosystem.


The Senior Group Manager requires an in-depth understanding of how the DT&C sub-function contributes to CCB's broader commercial objectives, deep knowledge of direct competitors' products/services, and mastery of cross-border financial solutions. Functioning as an integral member of the functional leadership team within the country/cluster, this leader is accountable for end results, budgeting, team revenue targets, credit portfolio health, and talent development.


Key Responsibilities

1. Franchise Strategy & Business Development in DT&C

  • Execute Segment Strategy: Drive and implement the strategic direction for the DT&C vertical across Mid-Corporates, aligning with central initiatives across the Commercial Bank, Corporate Bank, and Investment Banking (EIB/Banking).
  • Ecosystem Leadership & Origination: Position Citi as the preferred banking partner for the innovation economy by actively building and nurturing high-impact relationships with founders, CEOs, CFOs, venture capital (VC) firms, private equity (PE) sponsors, accelerators, and tech industry networks.
  • Cross-Border & Multi-Product Growth: Lead coverage efforts for companies with international footprints, driving multi-product adoption including Treasury & Trade Solutions (TTS), FX & Derivative Markets, Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Loan Syndications, and Corporate Finance.
  • Deep Tech Sector Specialization: Provide commercial thought leadership and advisory on sub-sector dynamics—such as recurring revenue/SaaS metrics, complex flow-of-funds in payment intermediaries (PI), merchant acquirers, money movement platforms, and embedded finance.

2. People Leadership & Talent Management (Manager of Managers)

  • Multi-Team Governance: Full management responsibility for multiple teams of Relationship Managers (RMs), Team Leaders, and execution staff, including hiring, compensation, performance evaluation, mentoring, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Talent Attraction & Bench Strength: Attract, retain, and inspire top-tier commercial banking talent with specialized tech sector expertise, building a robust talent bench and succession pipeline.
  • Culture of Excellence: Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance sales and service culture that thrives in a fast-paced, evolving market environment.

3. Credit Leadership, Deal Structuring & Innovation

  • Credit Oversight & Decision Authority: Oversee the end-to-end credit lifecycle for the DT&C portfolio; exercise commercial credit decision-making authority for complex capital structures, recurring revenue debt facilities, asset-backed lending, and cross-border transactions.
  • Senior Credit Officer (SCO) Capabilities: Guide deal teams through the credit approval process, manage risk committee dialogues, and maintain credit disciplines capable of Senior Credit Officer (SCO) standards.
  • Innovative Risk-Reward Structuring: Partner closely with product specialists, Credit Loan Management, and Independent Risk to structure creative lending and deposit solutions tailored to high-growth tech business models while protecting the bank’s capital.
  • Early Warning Detection: Champion proactive risk detection, tracking sector-specific leading indicators (burn rates, runway, churn, regulatory shifts in fintech, refinancing risk).

4. Risk, Governance & Controls

  • Ethical Leadership & Reputation: Appropriately assess risk in all business decisions, demonstrating unwavering consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets.
  • First Line of Defense Governance: Ensure robust onboarding, KYC/AML diligence, and counterparty reviews—particularly when evaluating complex flow-of-funds, multi-tier counterparties, and payment processor entities.
  • Policy Compliance: Drive absolute compliance with local and global regulatory standards, credit policies, and risk governance frameworks, fostering transparency and accountability across all managed teams.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, or related institutional financial services, with a substantial track record covering Technology, Media, Telecom (TMT), Software, or FinTech sectors.
  • Demonstrated Leadership as a Manager of Managers: Proven success in leading multi-functional or multi-team coverage organizations, managing budgets, setting team targets, and developing high-performing bankers.
  • Advanced Credit & Structuring Expertise: Deep commercial credit decision-making authority with substantial experience in complex capital structures, leveraged finance, syndicated loans, and cross-border underwriting. Capability or credentialing at/towards Senior Credit Officer (SCO) level.
  • FinTech & Tech Domain Mastery: Strong working knowledge of digital business models (e.g., enterprise software capitalization, SaaS recurring revenues, payment gateways, fund flows, and platform ecosystems).
  • Origination & Deal Execution Track Record: Proven ability to self-originate new-to-bank relationships, lead high-profile pitch processes, and negotiate complex transactions at the C-suite/Board level.
  • Ecosystem Connectivity: Established network and credibility within the venture capital, private equity, tech founder, and corporate finance communities.
  • Stakeholder Management & Influencing: Superior interpersonal and communication skills to effectively negotiate and align with senior internal partners (Risk, Product, Investment Banking, Compliance) and external stakeholders.
  • Adaptability & Data Orientation: High capacity to work under pressure, pivot strategic priorities based on data insights, and guide teams through organizational and market change.

Education

  • Bachelor’s / University Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field (Required).
  • Master’s Degree (MBA, MS in Finance) or equivalent professional qualifications (CFA, CA) highly preferred.
  • English fluency is required
  • CPA20 is required
