  • Create brand materials for web, product, social, print, decks, and sales use
  • Develop campaign and social creative for launches and ongoing communications
  • Write and maintain brand guidelines that support the company’s growth

What you bring

  • At least four years in brand or visual design, ideally across startup or agency projects with multiple brand applications
  • A portfolio showing unified identity systems that work across varied formats
  • Confidence creating direction and process where little has been established
  • Strong judgment in typography, layout, and color, plus fluency in Figma; motion or video experience is a plus

Who this fits

You’ll suit a builder’s role where you set the visual direction, create the operating guidelines, and work closely with co-founders and early product, engineering, and marketing teammates. The role is based in Palo Alto with a hybrid schedule requiring four days in the office, with flex remote days available after three months. You’ll also help shape and eventually expand the design team as its first member.

From the employer

About Us

We're living through a fundamental shift in how people discover, evaluate, and purchase products. The next generation doesn't respond to traditional marketing -- they build relationships with brands through authentic social interactions, seek recommendations from communities they trust, and expect personalized experiences that feel human, not corporate.

At Nectar Social, we're building the AI-native social operating system that enables this new era of commerce. We believe every social interaction should deepen the relationship between brands and their communities while creating genuine value for both sides.

Founded by ex-Meta product and engineering leaders, we've raised over $30M in total capital from investors including GV and True Ventures. We work with brands like Oura Health, Caraway, e.l.f. Cosmetics, Kosas, OLIPOP, and many more. We're building the future of social commerce -- where community, conversation, and commerce converge.

The Role

As Nectar's first Brand Designer, you won't be joining an existing design system; you'll be defining it. This is a rare chance to build the visual foundation of a category-defining AI company at the exact moment it's stepping into a much bigger spotlight.

You'll work directly with the co-founders as the design point of contact for brand and marketing, with your fingerprints on everything from the identity system to the product's early visual language. The scope is intentionally broad: this is a builder's role, not a maintainer's.

What You'll Do

  • Define and evolve Nectar's visual identity (logo, typography, color, iconography, motion) into a system flexible enough to work across web, product, social, and print

  • Own brand execution across the website, landing pages, pitch decks, one-pagers, and sales collateral

  • Design social and campaign creative that captures Nectar's voice across launches, announcements, and always-on content

  • Build and document brand guidelines that can scale as the team and company grow

  • Partner closely with founders, marketing, and early product/engineering hires to keep brand and product experience consistent

  • Help shape and eventually grow the design team you're the first member of

What We're Looking For

  • 4+ years of brand or visual design experience, ideally including startup or agency work spanning multiple brand touchpoints

  • A portfolio that demonstrates systems thinking, featuring cohesive identities that hold together across many formats, not just standalone pieces

  • Comfort setting direction with little existing process: you'll be writing the playbook, not just following one

  • Strong typography, layout, and color instincts; fluency in Figma (motion/video tools a plus)

  • Genuine curiosity about AI and how it's reshaping marketing, though no technical background is required

  • Nice to have: experience designing for B2B SaaS, martech, or social/community platforms

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation and early equity

  • Health, vision, and dental benefits + 401(k) match

  • Hybrid work schedule (4 days in office) with 3 flex remote days per quarter (available after 3 months)

  • Comprehensive stipends: $1,000/month housing stipend for living near the office, $50/month mobile stipend, $50/month internet stipend for remote employees, and commuter benefits (train stipend or Palo Alto parking permit reimbursement)

  • Free lunch in the heart of University Ave. in Palo Alto
